Pharmacy Tech in Training - Program Starts 11/18/24

The Pharmacy Tech in Training Program is designed to provide a full-time, paid training opportunity to learn, through various teaching methods and on-the-job training, the information required to practice as a Pharmacy Tech. Duties include assisting the pharmacist, preparing a variety of medications, stocking Omnicells, and billing functions. At the completion of the program, the Pharmacy Tech will transfer to a Pharmacy Tech position in the acute care setting.

  • Successfully complete the Pharmacy Tech University Program according to the schedule/timeline.
  • Sit for the certification exam.
  • Accurately fill and deliver Omnicell restock lists.
  • Enter and process new prescriptions and refills. Fill medication orders in an accurate and timely manner, including new or lost doses, floor stock replacement items, unit and dose cart, and outpatient and take-home prescriptions.
  • Perform miscellaneous billing functions, including patient charging and crediting, nursing unit charges, and controlled substance charging though manual entry into the computer, or with a bar code reader.
  • Perform miscellaneous non-sterile compounding.
  • Perform monthly inspections of assigned nursing units and pharmacy areas for expired or otherwise unusable drugs and provide proper storage and accurate inventory.
  • Prepare IV products using an aseptic and apply proper labeling.
  • Prepare parenteral nutrition solutions, and provide pertinent laboratory information to the pharmacist when assigned.
  • Prepare various batch IV products to support patient care needs by utilizing the batch compounder as appropriate.
  • Prepares and delivers enteral nutritional supplements to patient care areas. Maintains enteral records and billing functions.
  • Provide services to the Operating Room staff from the OR medication room.
  • Refers customers' calls to a pharmacist when appropriate.
  • Restock and replace various trays and kits used throughout the facility.
  • Learn and understand the roles and requirements needed to become a certified pharmacy technician, ready to practice in a pharmacy setting.
  • Work with a preceptor to perform all responsibilities required by the department.
  • Complete all mandatory training and competency modules.
  • Receive constructive feedback based on performance and behavior
