GENERAL PURPOSE
OF JOB:
The nurse practitioner is a clinically skilled individual, qualified by academic and clinical education who provides assistance in the provision of care to include assessing and managing patients following established practice standards and protocols. Working closely with medical staff, nursing, and ancillary support staff, the nurse practitioner facilitates communication between the members of the health care team and patient/ family to enhance the quality of care provided to patients. The advanced practice nurse works within the individual and practice setting scopes of practice.
EDUCATION
AND/OR EXPERIENCE:Graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioners Program with practice authority in the State of TexasFive years experience in peri-operative or peri-anesthesia nursing requiredBilingual in Spanish preferredCERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS.

Must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care to the age of patients served in designated services. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their needs. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide individualized patient care based upon considerations of age-specific needs and issues for all age groups.

Maintains utmost level of confidentiality at all times.Adheres to hospital policies and procedures.Provide continuum of care to patients in the peri-anesthesia and peri-operative setting.Function independently, under the supervision of an attending physician, in caring for patients with a wide variety of diseases and conditions.Have excellent communication and customer service skills, proven excellence in clinical care and supervisory skills.Participate and help coordinate structured rounding on pre-operative and post-operative patients as needed.Coordinate transitions between pre-op areas, OR and PACU.Supervise any clinical pathway development and utilization in the clinical area.Facilitate bedside nursing education and work with peri-op and peri-anesthesia Educators on basic and advanced knowledge base.Demonstrates business practices and personal actions that are ethical and adhere to corporate compliance and integrity guidelines.Perform and record history and physical examinationsWill assist with physician directed Pre-operative Care and Postoperative Care including:Write appropriate pre-op orders (including nursing care, medication orders, laboratory, ECG, radiological examinations, and obtain consultations approved by the surgeon or anesthesiologists). Review pertinent abnormal findings in the patient's history, physical examination, radiological and laboratory data with the surgeon or anesthesiologist, and obtain appropriate consultation, additional laboratory or radiological studies as needed, and initiate appropriate medical intervention. Record in progress notes pertinent findings from history, physical examination, laboratory studies, and radiological examination. Confirming operating room schedule in collaboration with surgeon, OR team and anesthesiologist
Assess, perform, and document parent/patient education. Write appropriate postoperative orders including general and specific nursing care. Attend the patient in the early postoperative period reviewing laboratory and radiologic data and making appropriate interventions. Advise the attending surgeon or anesthesiologist of unexpected events, providing an accurate synopsis of events related to a major change in the patient's condition and describing corrective measures already taken. Serve as a resource for nursing staff specifically regarding care of surgical patients.
Participate in Anesthesia or Surgical Service conferencesServe as liaison with the high risk population including clinical visitsCollaborate with research personnel on research projects and data collection.Supervisory duties with selected nursing resourcesPerforms other duties as assigned.BEHAVIORAL EXPECTATIONS
