Berkshire Hathaway Energy (BHE) Canada is a Canadian subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway Energy focused on identifying and investing in business opportunities related to all aspects of the energy infrastructure market across Canada. BHE Canada currently owns and operates a 130 MW wind farm, a 20 MW natural gas-fired power plant, and a high voltage transmission line in Alberta. BHE Canada is headquartered in Calgary, Alberta.BHE Canada is expanding its operations through a new power marketing subsidiary called AlbertaEx. This role provides an exciting opportunity to join a growing team as AlbertaEx starts commercial operations in 2025. Reporting to the Manager, Power Marketing, the primary duties of this position involve transacting wholesale electricity across Alberta and the Pacific Northwest, and scheduling power from BHE-owned generation assets. As part of a dynamic team of traders, this position will involve a mix of day and night shifts to ensure continuous coverage, as the trading desk operates 24/7 to monitor and respond to real-time market conditions.Key Accountabilities

Negotiate and execute approved wholesale electricity trading strategies with a focus on the Alberta, Montana, and Pacific Northwest electricity markets.Optimize sales from a portfolio of generation assets (including wind, solar, energy storage and natural gas), and schedule physical power to support the trade strategies.Develop market analysis reports and forecasting models to identify trading opportunities.Manage bid submissions for generation assets, ensuring accuracy and compliance with market rules and regulations.Build and manage relationships with counterparties and customers to maintain a consistent and reliable network of potential trading partners.Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Engineering, Economics, Mathematics, or a related field; an advanced degree would be an assetExperience trading and scheduling physical power in Alberta and/or the Pacific Northwest.Strong understanding of energy market conditions.Proficiency with trading platforms and analytical tools, such as Energy Trading and Risk Management (ETRM) systems, tagging software, and ICE.Strong analytical skills in quantitative analysis and spreadsheet modelling.Ability to work in a fast-paced trading environment with a rotating shift schedule.Communication and negotiation skills to develop industry contacts, negotiate outcomes, and close on opportunities.Strong organizational and time management skills.Proven track record of good performance and attendance.
