Together with industry, we are creating a cleaner, greener system, one that protects the planet and serves generations to come.The Strategic Spatial Energy Plan (SSEP) will accelerate and optimise the national energy transition to clean, affordable and secure energy. It is the first GB-wide spatial energy plan and will set out land or sea locations on a zonal basis for large scale generation, and storage of electricity and hydrogen. The SSEP will take account of economic, environmental, societal, technological and spatial factors.The SSEP Strategy team sits within the Strategic Energy Planning Directorate, with responsibility for ensuring the strategic development and delivery of the SSEP methodology and its coordination and integration with other key departments and NESO strategic plans. We will directly shape the NESO’s approach to SSEP by providing reliable insight to inform internal decision making and direction.Reporting to the Geospatial Lead, the Geospatial Analyst leads on the development and delivery of geospatial processes and analyses to evaluate spatial suitability for energy infrastructure development. You will work closely with other SSEP teams, external partners and senior management to identify and address key strategic challenges and opportunities that will impact NESO’s delivery of the SSEP. You will form, develop and support a high performing multi-disciplinary strategy team with both deeply technical and strategic responsibilities, and create understanding and cohesion across all SSEP teams and the strategic energy planning directorate.This role can be based from Wokingham or Warwick, and we continue to offer hybrid working from office and home. We are open to full time and part time applicants, as well as flexible working arrangements.Key Accountabilities

Provide technical input to Geographical Information Systems (GIS) / geospatial solutions.Geospatial analysis – QC external partner geospatial approach and analysis; lead on the development and delivery of geospatial processes and analyses and ensure interoperability of SSEP geospatial analysis in wider SSEP workflows and other spatial plans.Spatial data – identify and QC input data; QC data pre-processing in collaboration with external partners; will ensure spatial data compliance and complete/consistent metadata for all geospatial inputs.Visualisation / communication - input to the development and application of internal and external interactive maps and webapps meeting requirements of multiple stakeholders.Planning and Reporting – adhere to project management guidelines to ensure that geospatial workflows are undertaken in a consistent and robust approach; produce and/or provide input to documentation of geospatial approach and analysis for internal (comprehensive + user guides) and external audiences.Stakeholder engagement and industry trends - build and maintain trusted relationships across the organisation and externally in spatial data, GIS and geospatial communities; stay abreast of latest trends in geospatial analysis / GIS.Strategy Development – support wider SSEP strategic initiatives and complex problem solving, developing solutions to the root causes of strategic problems within the SSEP.About you

A competitive salary between £49,000 – £65,000 per annum – dependent on experience and capability.
