The Community Service Officer (CSO) position is a uniformed, non-sworn employee in the Airport Police Department. Duties include providing traffic direction and enforcement of parking regulations. CSOs provide customer service to the public and must interact professionally and appropriately as a representative of the Airport Police Department.

MSP Airport is a 24/7 operation, and this position may be scheduled to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. Currently, CSOs work 4 days per week with 10-hour shifts. Current shift times are:5:30 am - 3:30 pm

3:00 pm - 1:00 am

Direct the traffic flow in front of the terminal buildings, concourses, and other areas at MSP AirportRespond to public requests for serviceIdentify and report criminal activitiesEnforce parking regulations to include issuing Hennepin County Citations when appropriateAssist in traffic control at accidents and special eventsSupport the Airport Security Plan as requiredPick up and deliver correspondence for the department including evidence delivery to MN BCAAssist Police Department staff on a variety of tasks and projectsPerform other duties as assigned that do not require a sworn police officer which may include:Assist Police Officers in conducting vehicle impounds/inventory searches on related calls for serviceReleasing impounded vehicles and secured property to rightful ownersAssist Police Officers on maintaining perimeter security of crime scenes or critical incidentsAssist Police Officers in conducting alcohol and tobacco compliance checks of local businessesRespond to animal complaints in non-confrontational situationsAssist Police Officers in conducting criminal bookings for in-custody arrests (Fingerprinting/Photographs)Writing thorough well-documented reports in the department's records management systemCOMPETENCIESIndividual Contributor (IC) Competencies

High school graduate or equivalentPossess or eligible to obtain a valid, state-issued driver’s licenseCurrently certified or able to become certified in Standard Multimedia First Aid or equivalent level certification within 90 days of employment (will train upon hire)Ability to work outdoors (walking, standing, directing traffic, etc.) in all weather conditions for a prolonged periodAbility to work non-traditional hours including weekends, holidays and overtime as requiredClear and articulate written and oral communication skillsCandidates who are offered employment will be required to pass, prior to appointment, a pre-offer job-related assessment, a background investigation, obtain a MAC badge, and a medical examinationDesirable Requirements

Currently enrolled in an approved criminal justice, law enforcement, or related degree programPrevious work or volunteer experience in the law enforcement fieldOne year or more experience in customer service with direct contact in dealing with the publicAbility to communicate effectively in a second language
