General Purpose of Job:

A registered professional nurse who assumes responsibility and accountability for a group of patients for a designed time frame and provides care to these patients via therapeutic use of self, nursing process, the environment/instrumentation and other health care team members. Operates within the Driscoll Children's Hospital mission, vision, and values.

  • Assess patient condition and progress. Performs reassessment as required.
  • Participates in the nursing care plan effort.
  • Evaluates patient status/protocols/standards/medication comfort measures/patient response/psychological response/teaching protocols medical treatments.
  • Documents following unit/generic guidelines.
  • Adheres to generic structure with regard to legal issues, patient rights and patient valuables.

  • Occasional travel to satellite clinic for patient care. Unless currently working in Valley clinic travel will be required of all staff to and from Mc Allen - Brownsville. ( Travel from Valley to Corpus for training / clinic coverage )
  • Participate and support clinic operations.
Education and/or Experience:

Education:

A. Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.

Successful completion of DCH IV therapy Certification Course. Certification in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation techniques. Successful completion of DCH Orientation Course, Code Management, HIS/LIS courses, medication orientation course. Special training in the use of chemotherapeutic agents. Experience: Prefer pediatric experience but not required. Oncology experience, as well as chemotherapy preferred but not required. Bilingual a plus.

  • Current Texas RN license.
  • PALS within one year of hire date (will attend PALS as per availability.)
  • CPR certification
  • Advanced practice national certification encouraged
  • Chemotherapy cerification within 1 year of hire date.
