LINE WORKER DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The work involves participation in the installation and continuing maintenance of a municipal electric power system transmission and distribution lines. Duties are performed under general supervision according to established practices with strict adherence to safety rules. Direct supervision may be exercised over Line Helpers. A Line Worker does related work as required. T YPICAL W ORK A CTIVITIES : Sets utility poles for electric power transmission lines; Sets guy wire and pole systems; Create all types of polyphase transformer installations; Do phasing and phase rotation on polyphase circuits; Strings electric power lines and repairs storm damage; Installs and repairs service drops, transformers, crossarms, insulators and other equipment; Trims and cuts trees in the path of lines; Installs and maintains street lights; Operates aerial bucket Drives department motor vehicles; Install, remove, connect, or disconnect electric recording meters and services; FULL PERFORMANCE K OWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND PERSONAL C HARACTERISTICS : Good knowledge of the principles and practices of electric power system installation and maintenance; good knowledge of electrical circuit maintenance safety practices; ability to climb poles and work in high places; ability to work during inclement weather; ability to work from plans and specifications; ability to operate various types of large equipment, including boom trucks, bucket trucks, forklifts, trenching equipment, backhoes and other pieces of line construction equipment; ability to follow oral and written instructions; manual dexterity; mechanical aptitude; physical condition sufficient to perform the essential functions of the position.
