Position Summary

Mesabi Metallics is looking for a Mechanical Planner who will be responsible for planning, scheduling, and coordinating maintenance activities for ore processing equipment and systems. This role ensures that maintenance tasks are executed efficiently and effectively to minimize downtime and optimize the performance of concentrator operations.

Job Responsibilities

Reporting to the Coordinator – Concentrator Maintenance, the Maintenance Planner will be responsible for the following:

  • Responsible for proper planning of all maintenance activities related to the concentrator.
  • Monitor and analyze maintenance reports, work orders, and history to optimize effective and efficient procedures, planning and scheduling.
  • Ensure behavior is compliant with the site's Safety Management Plan.
  • Work with team to develop short, mid and long-term plans for the maintenance planning of equipment.
  • Ensure the site's related records are filed in accordance with company policy, statutory and contractual requirements.
  • Contributes to Maintenance Shutdown planning strategies identifying and prioritizing future maintenance requirements and working with operations, engineering, maintenance and outside contractors to ensure successful and safe execution.
  • Efficient ordering of parts through appropriate channels and approvals to execute sound planning activities.
  • Ensure the maintenance system is utilized fully to ensure transparency across the business.
  • Collaborate with Coordinator-Concentrator Maintenance and purchasing and communicate with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure resources are available when required.
  • Provide feedback to relevant leadership personnel regarding site issues which may affect the operating and financial performance of the operation and equipment.
  • Provide Coordinator - Concentrator Maintenance with monthly reports and assist with changes where necessary.
  • Use established systems to track maintenance activities against target and notify leadership of gaps.
  • Contribute to the annual equipment budget where required.
  • Manage equipment transfer or disposal process, complete forms and send to areas where these are required, ensuring required approvals.

Skills and Qualifications

  •  Working knowledge of processing facility operations in the Mining industry including; Concentrator maintenance, safety, maintenance, equipment, and staff utilization.
  • Project management with ability to meet deadlines.
  • Experience with document control systems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively train and mentor employees.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Comfortable with a fast-paced environment.

Education

  • High School Graduate or GED
  • Completion of 2-year technical program

Education

  • This position requires some work in front of a PC, desk, and phone and regular field work.
  • Some lifting and strength required.
