Institutional Securities Technology (IST)

Institutional Securities Technology (IST) is part of Technology. This group is responsible for developing enterprise applications for a diverse set of businesses including Fixed Income, Equities, Commodities, Investment Banking, Research, and Global Capital Markets. In addition, IST provides technology solutions for client-aligned groups and company-wide divisions, such as Finance and Operations, post-trade functions within the Institutional Securities Group and standardized data and enterprise-wide services to provide leverage to the Firm's businesses.

Team Profile:

This is a small team in Morgan Stanley Algorithmic Trading Services with trading floor presence in New York, London, and Hong Kong. The team works closely with business to optimize execution costs for clients by utilizing systematic, evidence-based approaches, generating ideas, running experiments to verify them, and then put them in action. Team members come from varied backgrounds of finance, econometrics, statistics, mathematics, computer science and data analysis, with many versed in multiple areas.

Role Overview:

This position is for a trading systems engineer, primarily coding in Java and doing data analysis in KDB/Jupyter notebook. The candidate will design, develop, test, and deploy new strategies and features in production taking responsibility for full software lifecycle. They will monitor trades and do historical analysis for performance improvements and reducing execution costs. They will interact with business extensively, discussing ideas, explaining trading behavior and seeing direct impact of their improvements in production. The work involves a mix of quantitative analysis, idea generation and development of trading algos making it challenging as well as interesting.

Required Skills:

• Electronic Trading system/Algorithmic Trading system experience • Excellent communication and problem solving skills • Strong technical background in software development • Experience developing Java (preferred) trading applications • Scripting Perl/Python

Desired Skills:

•Understanding of US markets/Interest in trading •KDB/Jupyter Notebook/Data analysis •Knowledge of FIX protocol Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $100,000 and $150,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs
