JOB DESCRIPTION:The Material Handler will work as part of a team in an assigned section. They will ensure that all machines and pre-dry stations are supplied with the proper resins and colorants in the correct ratio. Material handlers are responsible for clean-up of the machine injection unit and surrounding areas, including proper clean up and storage of all materials and supplies as a part of the line clearance for mold changes. Duties may also involve working and operating equipment in the regrind area. They will directly assist other employees in the assigned area in accomplishing their tasks.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSReviews the MATTEC schedule at the beginning of shift to determine any material changes or color changes that may take place during their shift or the following shift.
Keeps assigned machines supplied with material. Checks on a regular basis, all of the assigned machines to ensure that they have ample supply of materials to continue to run.
Keeps assigned area in a neat and orderly fashion. Responsible for keeping the injection unit of assigned machines clean.
Moves completed pallets of Finished Goods and WIP to staging area using Forklift and/or pallet jack. Supplies assigned machines with empty pallet for finished goods as needed. Inventories, labels and returns to warehouse materials and supplies at the end of production runs.
Performs color changes and material changes in a timely manner with minimal downtime and waste. Includes the purging of machines, cleaning up of hoppers, the drying of materials and the cleaning of the injection unit. Must have knowledge of drying temperatures and time for all of our materials. Completes all material changes and color changes before leaving the plant, even if it means staying past the regular end of shift time (must be approved by supervisor).
Sets color let downs accordingly to standards (Maguire) for color concentrates.
Prepares materials that will be needed during the first half of the upcoming shift; i.e. gets materials dried that will be needed during the first half of the next shift.
Obtains approval from the Process Tech or Supervisor on color change parts.
Blends materials as required; virgin, colorant and regrind, taking into account the total amount of material needed for a production run and the proper let downs.
Ensures that regrind is being utilized whenever possible in the proper ratio.
Interacts directly with the Start Up and the Utility in their assigned area and with other personnel on the shift to ensure that changes are made efficiently and effectively.
Notifies the Supervisor and/or Set-up Technician of any material problems.
Ensures that hoppers are kept full of material. Also, blends in regrind and colorant where required at the proper percentages.
Complies with the "Clean Sweep" program to ensure that no plastic pellets are permitted to go down a storm drain.
Pull packers relief breaks as required.
Understands all procedures for proper handling hazardous waste and other trash.
Regrind room activities will include the following (Day shift only):Sort rejected product by material and color.
Load rejected product into regrind equipment (grinders, conveyors, etc.).
Operate band saw equipment to cut rejected product & de-dusting equipment.
Accurately blend materials by approved percentages for production use.
Stage containers of regrind at loading stations using forklift and/or hand truck.
Perform inventory of materials. Complete inventory forms and tickets.
Able to identify molded parts by material
Assemble and breakdown containers as needed.
Maintain reliable and consistent attendance, including being punctual, and dependable in order to meet the needs of the department and the organization.
Execute each essential duty satisfactorily in order to perform job successfully.
Follows all safety procedures required in work area, wears PPE as needed, attends all safety meetings, and reports safety issues regarding equipment or unsafe/hazardous conditions.
Performs effectively as a team member, able to work well with others, open to receive and give feedback, and treats everyone with respect.
Takes ownership of own work and behavior, accepts accountability for own actions, encourages solutions, and communicates status of work/projects.
Follow all department quality standards/criteria. Raise concerns and issues to immediate manager.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions
Must have valid class C license for forklift certification

Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
