Surgery Secretary (OR) 30 hrs/wk, 1st Shift

PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION

Supports the functioning of the operating room by scheduling surgical procedures, performing clerical duties, and assisting the professional nursing staff in the delivery of patient care.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Duty 1: Ability to process data from physician offices to provide complete and accurate schedules utilized throughout the hospital.

Duty 2: Maintains office supplies in a cost effective manner to ensure adequate quantities for departmental use.

Duty 3: Collects and distributes data to the correct individuals and departments while maintaining HIPPA confidentiality.

Duty 4: Verifies charging process is completed into the computer system in an accurate timely fashion to close billing prior to patient discharge.

Duty 5: Provides support services to main desk personnel for continuous flow of information and supplies.

Duty 6: Processes information stored in the computer system for creating of statistics regarding productivity and workflow.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school graduate or GED equivalent
  • BLS within 90 days of hire
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Able to read and follow instructions in English
  • Able to perform clerical skills such as typing, filing, sorting and copying, etc.
  • Knowledge of computer programs (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Positive service-oriented interpersonal and communication skills required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position requires a full range of body motion with intermittent walking, lifting, bending, climbing, squatting, kneeling, twisting, sitting and standing. The associate must help transport patients and be able to lift 50 pounds or more. The individual must have excellent eye-hand coordination with the ability to grasp, push and pull, have fine fingers dexterity and manipulation. The associate must be able to reach work above the shoulders. This position requires corrected vision and hearing in the normal range. The associate must have excellent verbal skills to communicate with patients, physicians, and co-workers.

This position is classified “at risk” for possible occupational exposure to blood borne pathogens (HBV, HIV, etc.)
