The Vehicle Driver I position performs routine (journey-level) motor vehicle operations. Work involves operating motor vehicles used to transport passengers or cargo and performing vehicle maintenance. The Vehicle Driver operates and maintains the motor vehicles on location. The drivers transport the food carts to the units promptly and in a sanitary manner to the correct location. Assumes the duties of a food service worker when short staffed or assigned. The Vehicle Driver has no supervisory or financial responsibilities but is accountable for assigned vehicles. Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Performs other duties as assigned. Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency's obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.

Essential Job Functions:Attends work on a regular basis and may be asked to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.

Safely operates a Class C commercial vehicle, a single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 lbs. or below and/or a small truck that is towing a trailer, and other state vehicles in accordance with agency and facility rules/guidelines while obeying all state/federal/local traffic laws. Transports food, dishes and supplies to the units or designated areas as specified in the food service manual so that patients may eat without delay. (40%)

Cleans vehicles, trailers, dock areas and performs other duties according to the schedule. (15%)

Performs basic operator vehicle preventative maintenance checks. Specific checks will be made before, during and after operations; and reports any issues related to the vehicle as soon as possible. Processes and completes paperwork according to local/state guidelines and without significant errors or time delays. Records all fueling in the Fuel Log by recording date, mileage, and gallons at maintenance and mileage log in the truck. Completes detailed maintenance check list weekly/monthly. (25%)

Adheres to rotation policy and rotates milk and juice accordingly. (10%)

Performs the duties of a Food Service Worker when short staffed or as assigned. (5%)

Performs other duties as assigned. Registration or Licensure Requirements:List the licensure, certification or registration required to perform this job:Minimum of Texas Class C driver's license in good standing required. Class B preferred.

Food Handlers Certification or obtain within the first 6 months.

Initial Selection Criteria:Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent is generally preferred; experience and education may be substituted for one another

Experience in the operation of motor vehicles on a commercial basis required.

Waco Center for Youth applicants must be 21 years of age.Flexibility in work hours may be required for this position.
