Advanced technical skills in a variety of tax and accounting areas, along with well-developed and applied management and supervisory skills are required. The Tax Manager may have input on any tax issue presented.You will be responsible for:The efficient, accurate, complete, and timely preparation of high net worth clients’ individual, estate, gift and fiduciary tax returns whether prepared personally or by supervision of others.Performing technical tax review (1040, 1041, 706, and 709) and management of governmental tax examinations and trust accountings.Assuming full responsibility for larger tax returns and delegating to the various tax preparers as deemed necessary.Delegating, managing, and performing tax research projects to achieve an accurate and efficient product.Participating actively in client meetings and sophisticated tax planning efforts involving individual, estate, gift and fiduciary tax consulting. Reviewing and advising on clients’ estate plans.Acting as a resource for the tax preparation team and A&A staff on estate, trust and gift tax issues. Staying informed and knowledgeable on technical standards and tax law.Assisting and supervising tax preparers with the more complex individual, estate, gift and fiduciary returns.Reviewing wills and trusts pertaining to estate and fiduciary income tax returns.Assuming client service responsibility for clients the tax manager works directly with or clients where the responsibility is delegated from the partner.Communicating to the appropriate firm personnel important tax and tax developments affecting the firm’s clients.Maintaining familiarity with qualifications of all tax staff members; reviewing staff assignments for appropriateness.Working to develop responsible, trained staff by assisting in recruiting, performance evaluations, developing training aids, and acting as an instructor in professional development programs.Assuming responsibility for smooth flow of tax returns through the tax preparation system to assure accurate, complete and timely preparation and delivery of all clients’ tax returns.Possessing complete knowledge of the firm’s philosophy and its opinions on tax matters.Maintaining knowledge of general economic and political trends of possible tax or other legislation that could affect the business climate.Participating in the firm’s practice development efforts through involvement with referral sources, community and industry activities.Being responsible for engagement profitability — billings and collections.Participating in the firm’s committees and management meetings.Proficiency in the use of computer tax preparation, tax research, and tax planning software programs.Ability to operate a computer, calculator and software used for estate tax and valuation.Willingness to become a part of the firm’s Mentoring Program.Performing such other duties as may be assigned.What we need from you:Excellent oral and written communication skills.Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills.Strong interpersonal skills, including proven experience liaising with clients.Self-starter with the ability to work independently and use good judgment.Participation in career development program to improve managerial, communication, and interpersonal skills.What skills and experience you'll bring to us:5+ years of experience performing research and providing quality technical advice.Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, or related equivalent, as well as CPA certification.Masters of Science degree in Taxation or a J.D. highly preferred for Tax Management Position.Minimum of 40 hours of continuing education is required each year to maintain and develop technical and business skills, as well as to maintain license requirements.California income tax experience required.Seven decades, overriding focus: our people and our clients.GHJ was founded in 1953, making us one of the oldest independent firms in the Los Angeles area. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. Any offered salary is determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data, applicant's skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications (e.g. JD, technology).
