Khan Lab School, founded by Sal Khan in 2014, is an innovative K-12 independent school with two campuses serving over 260 students in Silicon Valley. Our Lower School (K-6) is located in Palo Alto, and our Upper School (7-12) is in Mountain View, California. We were established to test and refine the educational vision outlined in Sal Khan's 2012 book, "The One World Schoolhouse," which explores the development of modern education, the origins of Khan Academy, and a forward-thinking approach to both in-person and online learning.Building on this foundation, Sal Khan's latest book, "Brave New Words," further expands on his educational philosophy and vision for the future. We are seeking a part-time College Counselor to join our dynamic team and deliver a personal, comprehensive college counseling program for our Upper School students. This role is crucial in guiding our students through the college application process and helping them make informed decisions about their higher education and future careers. Non-traditional applicants who have worked outside of a school setting but have some experience with standardized testing, tutoring, and project management will also be considered. The Assistant Director will work in partnership with an experienced Director of College Counseling, providing opportunities for professional growth.SPECIFIC JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Implement a comprehensive college counseling program for approximately 20 students annually.Provide personalized guidance to students and families throughout the college application process.Stay current with college admissions trends, requirements, and best practices.Organize college visits, information sessions, and workshops.Collaborate with faculty and staff to support students' academic and extracurricular development.Assist in preparing college application materials, including transcripts and recommendations.Build and maintain relationships with college admissions offices.Lead one school-focused activity, preferably the Community Engagement Program.Work with a Data Manager to maintain the integrity of the school's record-keeping system.Collaborate with faculty to ensure records and transcripts effectively capture mastery-based learning without using grades.Teach a weekly college counseling course.Support the dual enrollment program with Foothill College and ASU.Manage the testing program, advising students and families on SAT, ACT, and AP exams.Collaborate with the Director to write official counselor letters of recommendation for seniors.Advise students on course selection and sequencing to meet graduation requirements and college admissions goals.Provide academic advising for juniors and seniors.Meet with college representatives visiting KLS (in-person or virtually).Engage in professional organizations (e.g., NACAC, WACAC, ACCIS, BAYSCC) for ongoing professional development.Utilize SCOIR or similar application management programs to oversee college applications and onboard students and families.Serve as a faculty advisor.Other related job duties, as needed.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, & EXPERIENCE INCLUDE
Bachelor's degree required; master's degree preferred.Understanding of the college application process and current trends in higher education; experience in college counseling or college admissions preferred.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to work effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.Commitment to innovation in education and alignment with Khan Lab School's mission.Experience with CRM/LMS systems; familiarity with college planning software (i.e., Scoir/Naviance) preferred.APPLICATION PROCESS

Salary Range:
$35-$45 per hour. Actual rate of pay will take into consideration a candidate's years of experience, education, professional experience, term of employment, hours, and skills. (Nov 1, 2024 - June 30, 2025).This is an eight-month position ending June 30 with the possibility for renewal.Benefits:
