The Progressive Care Unit RN, as a professionalpractitioner, assumes the responsibility and accountability for deliveringpatient care to telemetry/progressive care patients. The Progressive Care UnitRN demonstrates the ability to make clinical judgments in an effective andefficient manner with supervision. This individual employs critical thinkingand performance ability in the coordinator of patient care, consistentlyperforms according to nursing standards, and is accountable in managing patientcare and assisting others in the management of patient care. The Progressive Care Unit RN is sometimesalso called a step-down nurse, cardiac stepdown, neuro stepdown, surgicalstepdown and in some medical centers, the PCU is also known as a transition orintermedia unit.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement andevaluate patient care on a progressive care unitPerforms focused interviews to identify specific patients'needsAssesses signs and symptoms indicating physiologic andpsychosocial changes in the patient's conditionCollects, analyzes, and interprets data and information fromhealth care members and documents actual and/or potential nursing diagnosesDocuments the patient's plan of care using identifiednursing diagnoses, expected patient outcomes, and selected nursinginterventionsIdentifies and prioritizes actions based upon patient carerequirementsPerforms interventions according to identified priorities,plan of care, and the hospital policies and patient care outcome standardProvides a safe, comfortable and therapeutic patientenvironmentInitiates and evaluates patient and/or family educationRevises the plan of care according to evaluation, changes inmedical plan of care, effective/ineffective nursing interventionsDocuments patient's response to nursing and otherinterventionsUses clinical judgment in evaluation activities to meetpatient care needs of an assigned unit/floor including establishing prioritiesMonitors safety and effectiveness of the environment andequipmentMinimum Requirements:

Current Registered Nurse License for the state in which thenurse practicesOne year prior professional nursing experience preferredwith one year progressive care unit experience preferredComplies with all relevant professional standards ofpracticeParticipation and completion of Amergis' Competency programwhen applicableCurrent CPR if applicableTB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicableCurrent Health certificate (per contract or stateregulation)Must meet all federal, state and local requirementsSuccessful completion of new hire training as applicable tojob siteUnderstand patient confidentiality and HIPAArequirementsAbility to effectively elicit/provide information to andfrom appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors,co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in theEnglish language is requiredComputer proficiency requiredMust be at least 18 years of ageBenefits
