Milwaukee Jewish Day School (MJDS) is a pluralistic Jewish community with curricular roots in text, theology, practice, Israel, and memory. MJDS empowers students to develop Jewish roots, nourish their souls, and grow into lifelong learners, while also gaining the experiences and tools to engage with the world. MJDS enrolls approximately 180 students in Kindergarten through 8th grade and lives out its core values of empathy, wonder, and Tikkun Olam.MJDS seeks a strategic and skilled Director of Philanthropy to manage and implement all aspects of the school’s comprehensive development program. Reporting directly to the Head of School, this managerial role will supervise one development team member and work closely with other senior staff and key lay leaders. The Director of Philanthropy will meaningfully contribute to the school’s financial health and sustainability, projecting an inspiring vision of its impact and future direction.A strong candidate will demonstrate proven success in nonprofit development or a related area and strong relationship building skills. Prior oversight of a fundraising program is preferable, with experience in at least some of the following: major gifts, events, legacy, endowment, grants, and/or alumni engagement.MJDS is an equal-opportunity employerCompensation Range:

Spearhead strategies and initiatives to deepen culture of philanthropyCreate and implement 3-5 year development planDrive priority setting, time management, and orchestration of all development activities (identification, cultivation, stewardship, solicitation, recognition)Guide research, planning, implementation, and review of multiple data-driven fundraising activitiesProvide leadership with MJDS’ annual campaign ($300K+ goal), events, and legacy and endowment giving strategiesCoordinate and participate in donor solicitations of varying sizesOrganize and oversee biannual fundraising event ($150K approximate goal), including oversight of event committeeServe as public face and ambassador for MJDS in all social/community settings, alongside Head of School and board membersPartner closely with board President and Development Chair/Committee to empower and train board members on development rolesProactively research and pursue grant funding from foundations, both within and beyond the Jewish communityOversee comprehensive development budget and workflow systemsCollaborate and streamline partnerships with Marketing, Alumni Relations, and Donor Relations/Stewardship TeamsSupervise and ensure accurate and timely gift entry, recording, reporting, and acknowledgment systemsQualifications & Skills

5+ years of professional experience, preferably in a nonprofit settingPassion for the mission of MJDS; ability to compellingly articulate itKnowledge of the Milwaukee Jewish and greater community preferredDemonstrated success implementing creative approaches to donor stewardship and solicitationGrowth-oriented mindset; desire to continually learn and iterateAbility to collaborate with and impart development best practices to colleagues and volunteersAbility to think strategically and exercise sound judgmentEffective prioritization skillsHumility, flexibility, and adaptabilityTeam player mentalityCapacity to motivate and inspire stakeholdersClear, persuasive verbal and written communication skillsSophisticated interpersonal skillsDetail-oriented; capable of juggling and prioritizing multiple tasksSignificant managerial experience in empowering teamsComfort with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and donor database systems (DonorPerfect experience a plus)Willingness to work on campus, including some nights and weekends
