The Endoscopy Technician is responsible for the preparation of instruments, set-up of procedure with all equipment necessary to perform any endoscopy procedure, and post procedure turn-over of equipment, room, and patient care assistance. These responsibilities include set up of correct equipment, procedural assistance under the supervision of the physician, proper cleaning and maintenance of endoscopes, and assistance with care of patient. Independent judgement is exercised under the direction of a Registered Professional Nurse.Roles and Responsibilities:PlanningMaintains standards for the endoscopy patient following SGNA/ASGE and CMC standards/recommendationsResponds appropriately to changes in patient needs during the procedure.Anticipates patient needs for each procedure depending on physician preferences.Participates on care and maintenance of all scopes.Knowledge of equipment, cost, PAR levels, expiration dates.Assists department in maintaining appropriate supply levels.ImplementationAdministers optimal patient care by providing physician with appropriate equipment and supplies for each procedure.Knowledge and ability to apply proper handling of supplies and equipment necessary for all endoscopic procedures.Assist the nurse with completion of procedure.Ability to handle any variation in the plan of care in a calm, efficient manner.Assist with positioning of the patient.Helps out on other units of the hospital as the need arises.Maintains patient environment by stocking rooms and/or cleaning of equipment as assigned.Observes and anticipates any changes in patient needs during the procedure.Follows plan of care in an efficient manner under the direction of a Registered Professional Nurse.Plans for care directly related to each procedure.Demonstrates efficiency assisting with patient care such as lifting, transporting, and holding for treatment.Completes a minimum of 4 hours of approved education in the field of endoscopy annually.Evaluation/PlanningAnticipates needs for procedure.Knowledge of anatomy and physiology in relation to all performed procedures.Knowledge of role/responsibility and expectations for procedure being done.Participates with team in making sure that a Time Out was called before procedure begins.Plans and organizes to meet patient and unit needs within shift and beyond as necessary.Assist circulating nurse with surgical procedure set up.Performance ImprovementParticipates with team in identifying specific unit problems and seeks resolution.Communicates and promotes unit specific improvements.Completes assignments as directed.Participates in performance improvement activities.Demonstrates an understanding of quality data collection.Promotes TEAM work with all co-workers.Risk Management/SafetyAnticipates potential and actual safety hazards and removes equipment from patient care area and initiates a computer generated work order.Practices universal precautions and infection control techniques in daily patient care activities.Knowledge of cleaning, reprocessing, and infection control for all equipment.Maintains a safe and clean environment for our patients, visitors, and staff.Information ManagementAccurately uses the hospital information system to enter and retrieve patient data.Communicates messages promptly.Collaborates with Director and Team Leader on all equipment, inventory, and supply issues.Ability to input data into PACS.Assists with completing supply orders and maintaining supply levels for both store room and special order items.JudgementAppropriately reports any incidents on the unit.Demonstrates positive attitude towards cross training.Maintains accountability for actions and following guidelines.Treats the people we serve as our guests.Respects the privacy and confidentiality of patients, visitors, and staff.Present a professional image.Uses the telephone professionally.Listens to patients, visitors, and staff then acts promptly to address concerns.Anticipates what services and information people needs and takes action to provide it.Required Skills and Experience:Education - High School Diploma or GEDExperience - Preferred; Willing to TrainLicensure - Successful completion and maintenance of the GI Technical Specialist certification through the SGNA within 6 months of starting position.Preferred Skills and Experience:1-2 Years Experience PreferredExperience in the Healthcare Fields a PlusPhysical Requirements:Good dexterity and ability to stand in place for extended periods of time.Ability to lift up to 20lbsLocation and Travel Requirements:OnsitePay Range Disclosure:$19.56 to $20.41 per hourCayuga Health System and its affiliates are committed to treating all patients, providers, staff and volunteers equitably and with dignity, ensuring the highest levels of safety, care and respect, and striving to recognize and overcome biases and policies that contribute to disparities in healthcare access, equitable care and positive health outcomes for all.We are proud to be an Equal Employment Opportunity employer, supporting the growth and health of our employees and community by embracing the rich diversity, needs and circumstances of all peoples and prioritizing opportunities to build a diverse and inclusive workplace.
