POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Machinist/Programmer plays a key role in supporting Sellmark's R&D initiatives by producing high-quality prototype parts, contributing to product development, and ensuring precision in manufacturing processes The machinist is responsible for working with equipment including saws, mills, lathes, and hand tools to produce parts for our R&D needs. They will program all parts, set up machines, run prototype parts, order material, maintain quality standards and perform testing on parts/assemblies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND TASKSProgram G & M code for the CNC 5 axis mill and lathe with live toolingProof out programs and increase efficiencyUse Mastercam and Solid Works to design parts, tool profiles, and to generate tool paths for postsDesign fixtures and work holding solutions for CNC operationsOrder tooling for CNC machinesOrder Material for all prototype partsUnderstanding of GD&T and ability to read drawingsTroubleshoot machining issues and propose creative solutions to enhance part quality and production efficiency.Use equipment including recoil testing machine, immersion equipment, thermal chambers, IMS system, digital height gage, drop test equipment, to verify specs provided by engineers.Maintain a safe and organized area.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
N/AEDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Minimum 5 years programming and machining with the ability to supervise and improve R&D projects and processes.Intermediate proficiency with Solid Works with 3 years' experience modeling. Certification preferred but not requiredIntermediate proficiency with Mastercam with 3 years' experience modeling and generating G & M code. Certification preferred but not required5 years' experience working in a manufacturing environmentMachining knowledge and techniques including proper work holding and set up proceduresBasic computer skills and proficiency with MS Office SuiteUnderstanding G & M code and ability to editUnderstanding and figuring optimized speeds and feeds.PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time. The employee may be required to bend, twist, reach, push, pull and operate office machinery and motor vehicles.
Must be comfortable working with delicate prototypes and precision equipment, with attention to maintaining a clean and organized workspace in accordance with R&D safety standards.
Must be able to lift to (50) pounds. Specific work assignments may change without notice. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Most of the work will be performed in a climate-controlled environment, but the employee may be exposed to outdoor conditions such as inclement weather and varying degrees of temperature.
WORK SCHEDULE/HOURS
Schedules for this position are M-F 7:30-4:30, with occasional flexibility required to meet critical R&D project timelines.
