MBC BioLabs
Senior or Principal Scientist, Protein Engineering, Biologics Drug Discovery Ste
MBC BioLabs, San Francisco, California, United States, 94199
We are seeking a highly motivated and ambitious Protein Engineer to join our stealth-stage
biotech startup. The successful candidate will develop novel biologics for geriatric disorders.
This is a unique opportunity to shape the direction of our protein engineering efforts. We are
looking for someone who has broad familiarity with modern antibody discovery and protein
engineering techniques, strong problem-solving skills, and a willingness to learn quickly.
Location:
San Francisco, CA
Key Responsibilities:
● Lead antibody discovery campaigns conducted externally with CROs partners and
evolve leads internally using phage or yeast display libraries
● Use protein engineering techniques to develop protein fusions with optimized
expression, pharmacokinetics, and developability properties
● Develop and optimize moderate- and high-throughput assays to screen and characterize
engineered protein variants
● Analyze large datasets from next-generation sequencing of protein and antibody libraries
● Characterize lead candidates using biochemical, cell-based, and in vivo assays
● Collaborate closely with the founders to drive the project forward
Qualifications:
● PhD in Protein Engineering, Biochemistry, or related field with at least 5 years of
post-graduate experience. Hiring level will be commensurate with experience and skillset
● Experience assembling and screening yeast or phage display libraries, preferably
incorporating NGS-based workflows
● Background in biochemistry, molecular biology, and protein expression & purification
● Familiarity with analytical methods for characterizing the biophysical properties of
proteins (e.g., SE-HPLC, DLS, DSF , SPR, BLI, etc)
● Characterize protein function with ELISAs, flow cytometry, and activity reporter assays
● Proficiency in data analysis and programming (e.g. Python, R)
● Strong communication and collaboration abilities
● Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently
● Entrepreneurial mindset and enthusiasm for working in a fast-paced startup environment
The ideal candidate will be drawn to hard problems: proactive, creative, and excited for new
challenges. You should be comfortable wearing multiple hats and adapting as our needs evolve.
This role offers significant opportunities for growth and leadership as we expand our team.
If you are passionate about protein engineering and developing new drugs to treat geriatric
diseases, we want to hear from you!
