Compass Family Services is a 100+ year old nonprofit working on the front lines of San Francisco’s homeless crisis. We provide families experiencing or at risk of homelessness with comprehensive support to address immediate needs and ensure long-term success.

Salary range:

$78,000-$81,000

Schedule:

Full-time, exempt. Monday - Friday, primarily during standard business hours with occasional evening and weekends.

Location:

37 Grove Street, San Francisco. Fully in-person for the first three months, then the option to work remotely one day per week.

Position Overview:

The Events Manager will report to the Senior Manager of Individual Giving and work closely with the Chief Development Officer. The Events Manager will be responsible for planning, organizing, and executing a range of events that support our mission and fundraising goals. This includes our existing events as well as designing and implementing new events to provide additional opportunities for engagement and fundraising. This role requires a proactive individual with extremely strong organizational and communication skills, a flair for creativity, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. The ideal candidate will have experience in event planning and management, a commitment to social justice, and a knack for building relationships within the community.

Key Responsibilities:

Event Planning and Execution:

Develop and implement a comprehensive event strategy that aligns with the organization’s goals and mission, driving revenue, awareness, engagement, and connection.Plan, coordinate, and manage all aspects of events, including our annual Spring Benefit (gala-style event), our fall Families for Families event, smaller program-focused events, community outreach events, donor appreciation functions, and more.Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors, including event consultants in some cases, to ensure seamless event execution.Build on past successes to continuously improve the execution and experience of signature events.Oversee event logistics, including venue selection, catering, audio-visual requirements, design elements, and more.

Fundraising and Budget Management:

Work closely with leadership to create and manage event budgets, ensuring cost-effective and efficient use of resources.Develop and implement fundraising strategies for events, including sponsorship acquisition, ticket sales, paddle raises, and donor engagement.Track and report on event performance metrics, including financial outcomes and participant feedback.

Community and Stakeholder Engagement:

Build and maintain relationships with community partners, sponsors, volunteers, and other stakeholders.Engage with attendees and participants to foster a positive experience and strengthen support for the organization.

Marketing and Promotion:

With the Communications Manager and other colleagues, develop and execute marketing and promotional strategies for events, including social media, email campaigns, and traditional media.Create compelling event materials, including invitations, programs, and promotional content.

Team Collaboration and Leadership:

Lead and support event staff and volunteers, providing guidance and direction to ensure successful event outcomes.Coordinate with various departments to align event activities with organizational goals and priorities.

Qualifications:

Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in event planning and management, preferably within a nonprofit or social services setting.Proven track record of successful event execution, including fundraising events and community outreach.Strong project management skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and engage diverse audiences.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google suite, Salesforce (or comparable CRM), and event management platforms.Passion for social justice and a commitment to the mission and work of Compass Family Services.Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required for events.Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.

Compensation and Benefits:

Salary: $78,000-$81,000 annually (exempt)Paid time off: 4 weeks of vacation your first year, 5 in your second. Also paid holidays, sick time, family leave.Insurance: health, dental and vision insurance are fully covered by Compass for employees and dependent children. We also provide long term disability and life insurance.Retirement: after one year of work, Compass contributes an amount equal to 5% of your salary into a retirement account; this vests during years 2-5.Membership in OPEIU/Local 29 union.

Location and Covid safety:

Office location: 37 Grove St., less than a block from Civic Center BART/MUNI station.This is primarily an on-site role, with the option to work remotely one day per week after the first three months.Covid vaccination required for all staff.
