The Seattle Storm is seeking a Vice President of Public Relations who will help lead and make decisions about the direction of basketball and business communications. Under the direction of the Chief Marketing Officer, the ideal candidate will produce and provide direction on all media related activities, including but not limited to cultivating and building media relationships at all Storm events, developing key messaging, pitching story concepts and drafting communication plans for internal and external stakeholders such as sales and sponsorship teams, season ticket holders, VIP guests and team leadership.

Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesOther duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Develop Storm communications business and basketball PR strategy and tactical plans. Develop and maintain strong partnerships with ownership, front office staff, coaches, players and team personnel.

Facilitate and manage all media relations and communications needs of Storm personnel, including press conferences and media availabilities.

Support and manage media access to ownership, front office staff including the CEO, General Manager, coaches and players, and accompany Storm representatives (players, coaches, executives, etc.) at practices, games, special events and public appearances.

Build and maintain positive relationships with broadcast partners, local and national sports, news and general assignment media, and WNBA PR staff; establish and maintain strong working relationships with team broadcast talent.

Manage PR staff, game day PR support staff and stats crew at all Storm home games.

Write and produce all related media materials including media guides, gameday roster, press releases, special announcements, and other media materials.

Manage gameday media requirements and needs including player and coach availability, injury reports, media seating, media meals, credentials, and game notes.

Collaborate with Storm business units to develop and/or enhance community programs, events and promotions that increase and drive value to current and prospective corporate partners.

Oversee the @StormPR account on X and ensure player and team updates, milestones and notable accolades are communicated with internal stakeholders as well as on X.

Experience with creating and executing communication systems and practices to keep internal stakeholders aware of PR needs.

Additional Responsibilities

Optimize coverage and promotion of community events; support efforts to develop and drive content for web site and media coverage.

Set clear goals and expectations for the team and establish metrics to measure performance and track progress.

Foster an inclusive and innovative work environment, encouraging creativity and collaboration.

Manage communications budgets, allocate resources effectively and ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.

Education:

Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Communications/PR, or equivalent work experience.

Related Experience:

7 years of PR/communications, storytelling, project management, and leadership experience.

2 years of people management experience.

Required Competencies:

Deep understanding of the game of basketball and the team including game day events, statistics and other updates; NBA/WNBA experience preferred.

Solid record of developing and managing strategic communications strategies and garnering media coverage.

Proven relationship building skills; positive and outgoing personality.

Experience developing and managing community outreach strategies.

Strong presentation and public speaking skills.

Experience working with non-profit and community-based organizations.

Technical Skills:To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of AP writing style and feature writing.

Physical Demands:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. The employee is regularly required to stand for long periods of time; walk or move around extensively in an arena; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; balance; bend and reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Required to be able to follow media and players at a close distance when organizing and implementing media work. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to a busy, fast-moving and loud work environment (i.e. in arena professional basketball games). The noise level in the work environment during the regular season would be louder than a typical work environment with many moving parts, including moving around with media, coaches and players. Typically walks around basketball court, sits during games and works in an active environment with high noise levels.

Compensation:$100,000 - $110,000 Base Compensation per year
