Tax Managing Director (PCS)

Job Summary:

The Tax Managing Director (PCS) is responsible for providing tax and consulting services to our high net worth clients as well as managing, developing and growing the local Private Client Services practice.

Job Duties:

Coordinates and performs tax planning, preparation and research for high net worth individuals and related business, trusts, estates, and charitable entities

Oversees client engagements, supervises and reviews work of staff members, and works closely with clients as well as internal managers and partners

Consults with high net worth clients with written tax advice or responses to IRS inquiries

Coordinates with national Private Client Services team as well as communicating and implementing initiatives in the local practice office

Actively grows Private Client Services practice in the local market through business development initiatives

Tax Compliance

Ensures both that (a) clients comply with all applicable authorities, while at the same time minimizing their tax and reporting burdens, and (b) self and client service teams comply with all Firm policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality Manual (TQM)

Conducts top level review of tax filings and resolves all tax issues with client; involves specialists where appropriate

Manages engagements to achieve engagement management metrics and practices hands-on client service delivery

Responsible for overall client service by encouraging team’s adherence to TQM policies (including engagement letters, documentation, etc.)

Research

Identifies when research is needed; clearly and concisely frames issues to be researched; and reports the analysis

Identifies complex issues to be researched by engagement team and provides research methodology for efficient research process

Involves technical reviewers for written tax advice in an area of expertise, as applicable to role

Strategy Development

Introduces and develops new or improved ideas to improve the position of clients, the Firm, or Firm personnel, e.g. by reducing taxes or expenses or providing non-tax benefits

Presents complex strategies to clients and prospective clients

Other duties as required

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Builds a team of professionals by training and working together to serve our high net worth clients with timely responses to their needs

Supervises Associates, Senior Associates and Managers on all projects

Reviews work prepared by Associates, Senior Associates and Managers and provides review comments

Ensures that Associates and Senior Associates are trained on all current software tools

Acts as a Career Advisor to Associates, Senior Associates and Managers

Manages workload of Associates, Senior Associates and Managers

Provides verbal and written performance feedback to Associates, Senior Associates and Managers

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Education:

Bachelors degree in Accounting, required

Masters degree in Accounting or Taxation, preferred

Experience:

Ten (10) or more years of public accounting experience working in the private client area, (i.e. working on individual, estate, partnership, S-corporation, trust, and private foundation tax/consulting clients), required

License/Certifications:

CPA certification, required

Certified financial planning license or Professional financial planning license, preferred

Software:

Experience with Microsoft Office Tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook), and Adobe Acrobat, required

Experience with tax research databases such as BNA and RIA, required

Familiar with tax compliance process software including GoFileRoom, GoSystemRS, Caseware, BNA Depreciation Software, or comparable programs and standard tax workpapers, required

Other Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Ability and desire to implement business development strategies and expand the Private Client Services practice in the local market

Superior verbal and written communication skills

Ability to effectively delegate work as needed

Strong analytical, research and critical thinking skills as well as decision-making skills

Capacity to work well in a team environment

Capable of developing and managing a team of tax professionals

Ability to compose written tax advice

Capable of effectively developing and maintaining client relationships

Demonstrates an executive presence and the ability to act as primary client contact for preparation and presentation of issues and resolutions to clients
