Description Wills Eye Physicians seeks full-time Staff Ophthalmologist to join Dept. of Cataract & Primary Eye Care in Philadelphia, PA to offer patient care through examination & comprehensive treatment in high-volume outpatient setting. Clinical care areas include resident clinic, private clinic, OR & the Wills Eye ER. Perform eye exams, diagnose & treat ophthalmic disease/pathology, prescribe medications & perform lens-based eye surgery. Provide resident training & education. Required: Medical degree or equivalent; completion of ACGME-approved ophthalmology residency; BC/BE in ophthalmology; PA State Medical License or license eligible. Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must: 1) have a medical doctorate or equivalent, 2) hold or be eligible for medical licensure in the State of Pennsylvania, 3) be board certified or eligible in ophthalmology; and 4) have completed an ACGME-approved ophthalmology residency or its equivalent. We prefer applicants who can begin employment on or before 9/1/2021 and who have greater than two years of practice experience, but will review applicants who are at an earlier stage in their career. Primary Function: The Staff Ophthalmologist is responsible for offering high quality eye and vision care to patients through thorough examination and comprehensive treatments in a high volume outpatient setting. Performs eye exams, diagnoses and treats ophthalmic disease/pathology, prescribes medications and performs lens-based eye surgery. In this role, a primary focus will be resident training and education. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Acts as a physician leader for residents, medical students and support staff. This position reports to the Medical Director of the Cataract and Primary Eye Care Clinic. Conveys a commitment to providing unmatched patient care by conducting all services in accordance with established protocols and recognized standards of care. Works as part of a multidisciplinary team and collaborates with subspecialists. Ensures all patients receive an accurate diagnosis and appropriate recommendations to guarantee all visual lifestyle needs are addressed. Effectively communicates with ophthalmic technicians and office staff to ensure a flawless patient experience. Promptly documents medical services rendered to patients. Gains proficiency in the Health System's Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system in order to act as a resource to other physicians as needed. Participates in Performance Improvement priorities and in quality studies. Communicates with and educates patients and their family members on the complexities of their ophthalmic medical condition. Participates in weekly grand rounds and other normal medical staff activities. Demonstrates initiative in continuously improving personal knowledge, skills and work experience; and in improving departmental functioning. Promotes cost effectiveness within the department through the appropriate management of time, resources and daily patient flow. Interacts and communicates in a professional manner with the patients, medical staff, fellow employees, and other health team professionals. Cultivates internal and external departmental relationships at all times. Proposes recommendations as to methods and procedure improvements.Position Requirements QualificationsEducational requirements:Medical Degree (MD) and completion of an ACGME-approved ophthalmology residency.Licensure/Certification:Candidate must be board certified or board eligible and must be eligible to practice in the State of PennsylvaniaDEA. license; certification in assigned specialtyExperience:Pre-existing practice experience, ideally with at least five to seven years of specialized medical training/experience required.Strong commitment to teaching residents and fellows, and an interest in clinical and basic science research required.
