Overview
ABOUT THE POSITIONVHB's MetroDC (Tysons, VA and Washington, DC), I-64 (Richmond, Williamsburg, and Virginia Beach, VA), and Raleigh, NC offices are seeking a GIS Analyst to join the Technology Enablement team.This individual, under moderate supervision, receives assignment to conduct spatial analyses, produces maps, and configures web and mobile applications that express the results of analytical processes using Geographic Information System (GIS) desktop and online software. The role involves coordinating the procurement and distribution of spatial data while participating in the design and implementation of spatial databases in support of creating and maintaining end user applications. Under supervision this individual would prepare project plans, direct vendors, and coordinate internal team members in the completion of spatial data collection and projects. The role would also assist software engineers understand spatial data processes in support of creating and maintaining end-user applications.Our best estimate of the salary range for this position located in Washington, DC is $62,000-$76,000. This offer is determined based on a number of job-related factors including internal comparators, skills, education, training, credentials, experience, scope and complexity of role responsibilities and geographic location. In addition, VHB offers a holistic benefits package which can be found here.ResponsibilitiesPerforms standard and moderately complex analysis of spatial data using GIS technology (e.g., buffering, spatial overlays, distance calculations).
Diagnoses and troubleshoots GIS software across the entire GIS software stack.Researches and corrects moderately complex problems with data using spatial and logical analyses.Performs data searches and retrievals.Extracts and organizes data.Research source documents to resolve missing or conflicting data.Converts GIS data to and from CAD software format.Uses coordinate geometry to convert surveying data to GIS format.Task manages aspects of standard and moderately complex GIS projects or independently manages simple GIS projects.Creates and manages online tools using spatial data.Serves as a database administrator for spatial data, which may include versioning databases.Reviews work products of other technical staff/colleagues.May provide guidance to less experienced GIS team members.Participates in professional and personal development aligned with career goals.Performs all job functions in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations and VHB policies and procedures.Skills & KnowledgeWorking knowledge of the principles of geographic information science and GIS technology.Intermediary skill and proficient in the use of GIS software, particularly the Esri ArcGIS platform in both its desktop and online forms.Intermediary skill with ArcGIS Experience Builder and other web-based GIS applications.Proficient with Survey123, Survey123 Connect, Survey123 Feature Report, Field Maps, and other mobile data collection platforms.Ability to develop and maintain online spatial data tools for non-GIS users.Intermediate skill in applying GIS technology to solve difficult analytical problems.Working knowledge of relational database management systems and the ability to use the SQL language and Arcade expressions.Knowledge of the use and application of Global Positioning System technology and moderate skills in the use of GPS technology for data collection.Ability to understand and employ LiDAR data on moderately complex projects.Ability to understand and automate repeated tasks using Python, R, SQL language, and/or Arcade expressions on moderately complex projects.Ability to use data transformation software to import and export data for use by the engineering team on moderately complex projects.Ability to express meaning through cartography.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite with high proficiency in Excel, PowerBI, and/or AccessTeam oriented with ability to perform multiple tasks independently in a timely manner and collaborate effectively and positively with coworkers.Self-motivated, highly organized, and detail oriented.Skills and knowledge must be commensurate with required experience and job levelQualifications3-5 years of experience in the use of GIS technologyBS in GIS, Engineering, Planning, or Geography (a master's degree can be substituted for 2 years of experience)Experience in ESRI Utility network, and/or ESRI Roads and Highways preferredGIS certification preferredWe are VHB!
