ResponsibilitiesUnder the direction of a physician and the laboratory coordinator/manager, measures, analyzes and records pulmonary function procedures, and performs non-invasive cardiac diagnostic procedures on the patient care units, in the department, or in the outpatient clinic. The Pulmonary Function/Cardiac Technologist serves as an intermediate to a high level resource capable of independent work with the Pulmonary Laboratory when performing routine pulmonary function testing and cardiac monitoring. This position performs independent tests, implements quality assurance and quality control programs, trains new employees, troubleshoots equipment problems, and helps ensure adherence to Joint Commission, institutional, and governmental policies and regulations. Participates in educational and clinical programs and quality improvement. Participates and attends continuing education seminars.
Meets departmental clinical practice standards and competency by completing proficiencies needed to function as a pulmonary function technician.
Performs electrocardiogram procedures, signal averaged EKG’s, graded exercise stress tests, spirometry/flow volume loop, single breath diffusing capacity, gas dilutional lung volumes, six minute walk test, pulse oximetry and other tests as directed.
Demonstrates working knowledge of equipment. Accurately records required documentation.
Accurately assess patient understanding of purposes and importance of procedure, when appropriate. Accurately and completely informs patient what to expect during exam. Ensures patient’s privacy, safety and comfort.
Regularly cleans all machines and equipment in compliance with infection control policies. Maintains work area as a safe, sanitary and orderly space. Performs physical inventory of supplies per departmental procedures.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
Maryland License is required.
NBRC Certification is required.
Current CPR BLS certification is required.
Minimum of 1 year of experience is required.
