The Law Offices of Gilda A. Hernandez, PLLC are currently seeking a highly motivated senior associate attorney with partnership opportunity to join their team of attorneys to represent employees in complex class action litigation. The position entails working closely with experienced attorneys and the opportunity to run a docket of cases, including but not limited to taking and defending depositions, engaging in oral arguments, and negotiating at mediation(s). The ideal candidate is not afraid to zealously advocate for the client in court and with opposing counsel.
Type of Practice: Boutique Labor/Employment Firm dealing primarily with wage and hour collective/class action litigation; representing employees for claims including, but not limited to, unpaid hours worked, unpaid overtime, illegal deductions, etc.
Applicant needs to be detail-oriented. Attorneys with strong legal research and writing skills, including, but not limited to judicial clerkship experience preferred. Position sometimes entails travel in North Carolina and out of state.
Job Duties:
· Requires strong legal research and writing skills; judicial clerkship experience preferred.
· Strong organizational skills and highly attentive to detail;
Assist and support senior attorneys in handling complex cases, primarily in federal court, including all federal district courts in North Carolina and the Fourth Circuit;
· Able to work independently and collaboratively;
· Taking and defending depositions;
· Perform discovery of various electronically stored data and hard copies of information in preparation of litigation;
· Assisting and/or participating in mediation, depositions, court hearings, and trial;
Participating in potential client meetings, engaging in follow-up discussions with existing clients, and/or engaging in client follow-up calls for full understanding of the facts to draft pleadings, discovery responses, and/or written discovery requests;
· Highly knowledgeable with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook;
Assist with trial proceedings by organizing evidence, scheduling and/or speaking to witnesses, preparing witness examinations, pretrial motions, disclosures, etc.
