The Certified Ophthalmic Assistant is responsible for providing assistance to Ophthalmologists, Optometrists and clinical staff with direct and indirect patient care, ensuring smooth work and patient flow within the department.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Obtain initial patient assessment by recording pertinent medical history and charts procedures for medical records
- Performs and records visual acuities, color vision, stereopsis test, auto refractometer readings, refraction and intraocular pressure and other testing as directed by physician
- Coordinate physician activities and facilitate patient flow in the office
- Utilizes AIDET to greet patients, handles questions during visits, triages phone calls and schedule appointments
- Administers ocular medications under physician direction
- Under physician direction assist with treatments and minor surgical procedures as needed
- Maintain accurate and reliable medical records
- Complete patient billing. Complete and track referrals
- Work as a team member within the Ophthalmology department and with all other Optum departments

Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED. Evidence of continuing education in specialty field
- COA certification or able to obtain within 18 months of hire
- BLS or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire
- Eligible for Washington State Medical Assistant (MA-R) registration
- 1+ years of experience in an eye care setting
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in multiple subspecialties within Ophthalmology
- Knowledge of refraction process
Washington Residents Only: The hourly range for this role is $19.47 to $38.08 per hour. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
