Description

Job Purpose

Assist in all aspects of network configurations, server infrastructure, virtualized infrastructure, endpoint management, monitoring, and support. Assist with and make recommendations regarding the integrity of the network firewall and overall network security. Provide efficient and effective support of application servers, virtual environment, user systems and applications.

Specific ResponsibilitiesAssist with integrity of network firewall and overall network security, including:

Assist in the development and support of Utility-wide security programs.Maintain network security and firewall security, including user accounts and access rights, spam and spyware filtering, and network intrusion assessment, prevention, and detection.Administer virus protection including installation, configuration, upgrades, troubleshooting, and remediation of infected systems and applications.Assist with vulnerability assessments, including the identification and investigation of potential security threats and vulnerabilities in our network. Implement necessary configurations to ensure a secure network.Identify current security environment improvement opportunities and research, plan, and propose possible solutions. Work with other Utility network owners to implement security measures as appropriatAssist in coordination and implementation of incident response and analysis to action or imminent security breaches.Perform patch and driver testing, documentation, and application to workstation and server operating systems. Maintain a library of drivers and service packs for Utility PCs and servers.

Assist in all aspects of network configurations, monitoring, and support, including:

Perform daily monitoring of event logs on the servers and free/used hard drive space on all servers, identifying problems and formulating solutions.Monitor the DNS and DHCP databases for items that need attention and implement solutions.

Provide efficient and effective support of application servers and virtual environment, including:

Maintain the configuration of the existing VMware virtual infrastructureMonitor VMware host and virtual environment health status via existing monitoring system

Other Responsibilities

Draft documentation of security policies and proceduresPresent security training as neededPerform basic administration functions of the Microsoft 365 tenancy, including adding or removing user accounts, applying patches and upgrades to relevant devices, ensure backup and restore methods are functioning properly, and troubleshooting user and server problemsAct as backup to IT Operations Administrator II and the IT Operations SupervisorParticipate, as directed, in appropriate security committees for the UtilityAdminister digital certificates for MISO and/or outside marketing partner.Other duties as assigned.Position Requirements

Qualifications

Knowledge

Bachelor's degree in information technology or networking or equivalent combination of education and experience requiredMinimum 4 years network experience, with at least 2 years of experience in a virtual server (VMware) environmentCurrent MCSE certification, or currently available equivalent. Must maintain certification while employedCisco certification preferredKnowledge, or ability to quickly obtain knowledge, of the Utility network including user and server administrationKnowledge of, and the ability to stay current in, new technologies, standards, and methodologies with respect to applicability, feasibility, productivity, user needs, and potential for maximizing resources, especially for security technologies and controlsStrong working knowledge of Windows operating systems, Microsoft Active Directory, Internet and network connectivity concepts, network security, computer hardware operations and diagnostics, and web/mobile technologyStrong working knowledge of email technologies and SMTP protocolStrong working knowledge of backup technology, firewall concepts, anti-virus and intrusion detection applications, and remote systems management toolsSkills

Work environment is primarily in an office environment. Regular visits to an industrial coal-fired power plant are requiredMust comply with all safety and site rules at all locations
