TxDOT's San Angelo District is looking for a

Transportation Specialist

in the

Transportation Operations Office

in San Angelo. This position will assist overseeing in-house and consultant Plans, Specifications, and Estimate development for traffic and highway safety construction projects in the San Angelo District with opportunities to manage the construction phase of Traffic projects. The San Angelo District's Transportation Operations office is a great working environment with an experienced and diverse team that designs, builds and maintains our traffic infrastructure. Position Description

Provides technical expertise and coordination for transportation programs involving design, building construction projects, construction of transportation systems, traffic operations, maintenance of highways and facilities, or bridge inspection and appraisal in accordance with Department standards. Assists with project planning and the development of policies and procedures for area of responsibility. Work requires contact with governmental officials, consultants, contractors and private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.

Essential Duties:

Transportation Specialist I:

Assists with administering contracts for installation and maintenance of traffic systems and/or traffic data collection devices.Assists with project design involving design calculations and sketches of plans, layouts and typical sections.Coordinates traffic studies, analyzes traffic data, determines need and prepares plan layouts for traffic projects including signs, signals, illumination devices or traffic data collection devices.Inspects construction methods, workmanship and maintenance procedures to ensure contractors build, install, maintain and repair traffic control/data collection related equipment or facilities in accordance with plans, specifications and contract requirements.Prepares and monitors contracts for inspections done by consultants.Reviews and oversees plan packages submitted by consultants.Reviews and revises Plans, Specifications & Estimates and project designs for traffic control devices, signals, signs, markings, detours, traffic control plans, roadway illumination, traffic management systems or Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS).Reviews construction records, inspection reports and records audits to ensure contractors build roadways, bridges and related structures in accordance with plans and specifications.Performs other job related responsibilities as assigned.Transportation Specialist II includes those listed above and:

Coordinates traffic studies, analyzes traffic data, determines need and prepares plan layouts for traffic projects including signs, signals, illumination devices or traffic data collection devices.Coordinates design work among TxDOT entities, consultants and contractors.Minimum Qualifications:

Education : Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline. Relevant experience may be substituted for education on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications

Experience

Transportation Specialist I: 2 years transportation design, construction, traffic operations, maintenance, bridge inspection experience.

Transportation Specialist II: 4 years transportation design, construction, traffic operations, maintenance, bridge inspection experience.

(Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent).

Licenses and Certifications : Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
