The School Bus Driver is responsible for the safe and timely transportation of school children in a school bus.
Reports To:
Transportation Supervisor
Schedule (Varies):
6:15am-8:15am, M-F (morning routes)
2:30pm-4:30pm, M-F (afternoon routes)
Additional trips may be scheduled
We are open to hiring candidates who prefer working only morning or only afternoon routes
***GUARANTEED 2 HOURS PAY / ROUTE or TRIP***
Essential Job Functions:
1. Drive a school bus in a safe manner on assigned routes
2. Maintain order and exercise discipline as necessary, and refer serious violations to the Transportation Supervisor
3. Follow all state and district procedures relating to the safe and timely pickup, transportation, and discharge of passengers; including disabled riders
4. Perform required safety and maintenance checks on vehicle
5. Assume responsibility for the safety and care of children while in route
6. Work cooperatively with administration, staff, parents and the community
7. Comply with the absence policies of the District
Requirements of Essential Functions:
Constant (66-100%) sitting with reaching and stretching of arms and legs for door opening, operating controls, shifting gears, clutching and braking, along with alert watching and listening attentively for conditions affecting the bus or passengers.
Occasional (1-33%) daily opening of hood and climbing on bumper to check fluid levels, along with bending, pushing, pulling and lifting to clean interior of bus; and the standing, stooping, squatting to load, fasten and unload wheelchairs when necessary in order to perform essential job functions.
Lifting: 0-10 pounds frequently (34-66%)
11-50 pounds occasionally (1-33%)
Marginal Job Functions:
1. Cleans bus interior daily and refuels when level drops to half-full
2. All other duties assigned which relate to the functions of the job
QualificationsJob Qualifications:
Possess, or be willing to obtain a commercial driver's license with school bus endorsement
Ability to enforce state and district policies concerning safe bus behavior by students
Ability to work independently in a variety of weather and road conditions, as well as with large groups of children with varying noise levels
Must have good communication skills (oral and written) in order to work effectively with staff, students, parents and the community
