Summary

Position Summary

Under the direction of a physician or the Primary Care Medical Director, the

Family Nurse Practitioner

(FNP) or

Physician Assistant

(PA) will provide non-psychiatric medical care for patients admitted for psychiatric hospitalization and partial hospitalization. This includes face to face medical evaluations for history and physicals and subsequent consults as requested, and non-psychiatric medication management and health care to patients. This position includes developing and recording a plan for effective and timely treatment for patients. Shifts could be located at Spring Harbor Hospital (pediatric and adult patients) and/or the MaineHealth Maine Medical Center Sanford Behavioral Health Unit (adult patients only).Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)Education : Master's degree with an advanced knowledge of nursing theory and practice, and additional medical training or completion of a board certified Physician Assistant program.

License/Certification : Current and valid license as a Nurse Practitioner by the Maine State Board of Nursing or Maine Board of Licensure in Medicine and qualified to provide health screening, medication and education regarding medication management. Specific credentialing criteria needed if working in the hospital as defined by Medical Staff by-Laws or certified by the National Commission on the certification of Physician Assistants.

Experience : 2+ years of patient care in an outpatient primary care clinic, acute/urgent care, or inpatient medical hospital is preferred.

Spring Harbor Hospital is a 100-bed freestanding nonprofit psychiatric hospital located in Westbrook, Maine. It is one of two freestanding psychiatric hospitals in the state of Maine and offers services for both children and adults.

The inpatient Behavioral Health Unit in Sanford - a 40 bed, locked unit that provides a 24-hour treatment program designed to provide care for adults ages 18-95 in acute psychiatric crises. The multidisciplinary team treats individuals experiencing major mental illnesses and addiction-related problems. The program includes voluntary and involuntary levels of care. A team of mental health professionals plan and work together with the patient to provide psychiatric care, medical treatment, support, referral for follow-up care, and opportunities for learning and emotional growth. The team includes nursing, psychiatry, social work and case management. Programming on the mental health unit includes daily clinical groups in CBT and DBT, a therapeutic milieu, art therapy, medication management, and recreational activities.
