As part of a collaborative, diverse, global team, the Manager of Government Relations will assist in the development and execution of policy campaigns, projects, and initiatives critical to the company’s success on issues including energy, environment, and technology.Additionally, the Manager of Government Relations will represent Johnson Controls at political events and industry meetings, bringing external perspectives back into the company to enhance advocacy strategies and policy development. The ideal candidate will also have the organizational skills to manage various department projects and initiatives across three core competencies of policy, advocacy and political action committee management.How you will do it:Develop, research, write, and edit materials including correspondence, legislative summaries, advocacy materials, and presentations for company leadershipAssist in monitoring legislative progress using resources such as Politico, the Federal Register & MultiState.Lead, in concert with external consults, reporting efforts such as LD-2, LD-203 & Federal Election CommissionRepresent Johnson Controls externally where needed with Capitol Hill meetings, Political Action Committee (PAC) events and external partner meetingsMaintain relationships and coordinate with outside trade associations, NGOs and other interest groups on shared legislative goals, leading where appropriateBuild and maintain relationships with key Congressional and Executive branch officials and ensure our legislative and regulatory goals are shared with themSupport the creation and on-going work of internal cross-functional policy teamsWhat we look for:6+ years of experience in one or more of the following: Capitol Hill legislative staff, trade association, non-profit or lobbying or public relations firmUnderstanding & prior engagement with industry associationsExceptional and concise verbal and written communication skills including writing, editing and public presentationsAbility to create effective partnerships with key external stakeholders and internal ManagementStrong knowledge of the federal legislative and regulatory processAbility to exercise judgment and discretion with integrity, initiative, and limited supervisionExcellent interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain positive rapport with executives, sales, and technical colleaguesAbility to produce high quality work within tight deadlinesProficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and TeamsBachelor's degree required, with relevant experience preferredExperience in the energy and environment policy arena a plusThis is a hybrid role based at our Washington DC office. It will require being in-office 2-3 days per week.HIRING SALARY RANGE: $96,000 - $145,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
