This position is located in the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation's (PBGC), Office of the General Counsel (OGC), Bankruptcy, Litigation and Terminations Department (BLTD).DutiesThe candidate selected for this position will:Prepare and transmit reports to appropriate senior level attorneys on cases and assignments.Plan and assign work to be accomplished by subordinate paralegal staff.Manage and retrieve electronically stored information and other records including legal risk management, privacy, and case management.Independently research and oversee the analysis of complex and/or unprecedented legal issues and prepares legal documents, reports, and memoranda for use of attorneys in complex ERISA, bankruptcy, FOIA/Privacy Act, appropriations, case law, legal research and memoranda, and other sources of authority.Conduct extensive and thorough legal research analysis, and evaluation of a range of topics relating to Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) litigation, bankruptcy, and/or liens.Salary : $117,962 - $153,354/yearConditions of EmploymentYou must be a U.S. citizen.You may undergo a personnel security background investigation.Selective Service registration required for male applicants, unless exempt.1-year probationary period required unless met during prior Federal service.Go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form I-9. Federal law requires verification of the identity and employment eligibility of all new hires in the U.S.Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency.Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process.QualificationsAll qualification and eligibility requirements must be met by the announcement closing date.To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must meet the specialized experience qualifications and/or education for the grade at which you are requesting consideration.Specialized Experience : Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at the GS-12 grade level in the federal service or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the private sector reviewing work assignments associated with complex civil litigation, overseeing the preparation of legal pleadings, briefs, motions, and formal legal memoranda; providing investigative and paralegal services and advising staff on research, drafting and preparation of court filings, and the drafting and filing of statutory and consensual liens.Examples include : providing technical expertise to paralegal specialists preparing and filing statutory and consensual liens, complaints, affidavits, declarations, memoranda of law, trusteeship applications, agreements, policies, procedures, stipulations, motions, orders, proofs of claim, and other types of pleadings.Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
