Job title: Nurse AideWork Location: Simpson General HospitalReports to:RN Supervisor/DONJob Type: PRNExperience:One (1) year Med/Surg care experience is strongly preferred.Education:High School Diploma or GEDAssociates Degree (Preferred)Location:Mendenhall, MSSchedule:As NeededNightsWork Remotely:NoPosition Summary: The Nurse Aide provides or assists patients with the completion of routine activities of daily living in accordance with established policies and procedures under the supervision of the registered nurse.Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Assist patients according to their needs in such activities as bathing, eating, oral care, hair care/shampoo, and shaving, ambulating and dressing.Assists with patient admission and discharge process including but not limited to completion of inventory of patient's belongings and assessment of contraband/body audit.Performs activity therapy group session for Activity Coordinator as directed and completes required documents.Assists in therapy treatment as directed and monitors patient's attendance in program activities and Geri-psych treatment modalities.Take, monitor, record and report vital signs (to include patient's temperature, pulse, respiration rate, O2 sat, and blood pressure) and determine if range is abnormal according to position/departmental guidelines and/or policies.Develop nurturing relationships with patient.Interacts with patients on a one-to-one basis in a therapeutic manner.Assist with delivery and pickup of food trays.Assist in preparing meals (i.e. serving trays, placing bibs, assists in feeding, cutting, or mashing up food etc. if necessary).Answer calls for help and determine if additional help is needed.Make beds, empty bed pans and perform light housekeeping duties in patient's room.Observe and report patient's physical, mental, and emotional conditions.Report abnormal changes or patterns to nursing staff.Obtain, record and report fluid intake/output as directed.Observe and report the presence of pressure areas to prevent bed sores.Ensure bed bound patients are provided with adequate toiletry needs, placed in comfortable positions and turned as directed.Performs routine and PRN linen changes.Assist patients in preparing for diagnostic/medical test, x-rays, therapy, activities and physician visits. Provide patient transportation as needed.Completes documentation of required forms/documents.Adheres to all hospital and departmental policies and procedures.Attend and participate in in-service education program, on-the-job training programs, etc. as directed or scheduled.Maintains confidentiality in matters related to patient, family and facility staffUnderstand standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the nursing field.Subject to irregular hours.May be required to wear personal protective equipment as directed.Perform other duties as assigned.Education and/or Work Experience Requirements: Relevant experienceAbility to effectively communicate with patients, families, physicians, and hospital staffIntermediate computer skillsProfessional, friendly attitudeWorking knowledge of healthcare laws and regulationsTeam player with excellent communication and interpersonal skillsResponsible and compassionateOutstanding organizational and multi-tasking skillsExcellent problem-solving skillsAbility to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer serviceAbility to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.Physical Requirements: The Nurse Aide must have the ability to move around freely, walk and sit for long periods of time; use stomach and lower back muscles to support the body for long periods without getting tired; use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls; bend or twist their body; understand the speech of another person and speak clearly so listeners can understand; and see details of objects that are less than a few feet away and at a distance. The Nurse Aide must be able to occasionally lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
