Our mental health, crisis intervention, youth housing, substance use, and early childhood services help thousands of individuals each year. POSITION PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES:
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a member of the Executive Team and is responsible for all aspects of the financial, business, and facilities operations for the agency. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the CFO provides finance, accounting, budgetary, operational and programmatic support to all agency programs and activities. The CFO directly oversees and supervises the financial/accounting staff and other departments as directed by the CEO. The CFO serves as an active member of the Executive Team helping to develop and implement the agency’s vision and mission.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Actively manage the day-to-day accounting and financial operations of the agency
Secure necessary financing and financial resources to provide adequate cash for ongoing operations
Develop budgets for the agency as a whole, individual programs and new/proposed/expanded services, including the preparation of budget revisions as needed
Prepare, analyze and present monthly financial reports for the agency, its programs, and activities
Report on financial results and issues to the CEO and Board of Directors
Oversee and review the preparation of all program financial reporting required for funding sources
Manage the billing, accounts receivable and accounts payables functions/staff
Oversee the agency’s banking activities and actively manage cash flow to ensure it meets agency needs
Manage the negotiation and execution of agency contracts with funding sources, vendors, and collaborative service providers
Manage accounting control systems and internal audits ensuring the accurate and timely production of accounting information and financial reports
Monitor changes in legal, regulatory and administrative environments and implement changes in procedures as needed to maintain compliance
Manage the agency’s property and casualty liability insurance programs, including ongoing risk analysis
Review efficiency/effectiveness of employee benefit programs, seeking approaches to lower costs and increase benefits where possible and consistent with required quality levels
Serve as the agency’s primary liaison with its independent auditors to ensure annual audits and tax returns are executed and completed smoothly and in a timely manner
Ensure a productive work environment within the finance, accounting, and operations teams
Manage finance and audit committees
Attend finance committee and board meetings
Represent the agency as a member of the executive team
Oversee real estate, facility and operations management activities
Ensures accuracy of fixed asset schedule
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Highest level of professionalism, stewardship and integrity in executing the full breadth of the CFO role
Excellent leadership skills with the ability to make well-reasoned and timely decisions as part of a team and in the best interests of the agency for the present and future
Driven to innovate and implement process improvements that increase efficiencies and effectiveness
Excellent analytical and organizational skills, as well as attention to detail; ability to prioritize effectively and adjust to multiple demands; experience in creating realistic program budgets and timelines.
Highly motivated, with the ability to work independently, take initiative, participate as an effective team member, and follow tasks through to completion
Non-profit financial leadership experience preferred
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, finance, or business administration, or equivalent work experience
CPA and/or Master’s degree preferred
Budgeting & Accounting Skills
Thorough knowledge of budgeting and accounting practices, processes, and procedures of non-profit organizations preferred
Manage and oversee all aspects of the financial/accounting management function
Create, analyze and report on financial statements and budgets
In-depth knowledge of risk management methods and the ability to create forecasting models
Experience with Merger & Acquisition (M&A) is desired
Leadership & Management Skills
Five to seven years of senior management experience with supervisory and leadership expertise with operations in excess of $5 million per year and over 100 employees in the health care sector, preferably with a non-profit agency
Demonstrated management skills, able to inspire, motivate, mentor, and hold accountable the finance team
Analyze and solve problems effectively and efficiently
Supervise staff, develop job descriptions, and deliver performance evaluations and improvement plans
Be adept at decision-making and adaptability
Technology & Software
Previous experience with accounting software such as Abila MIP, Sage, Great Plains, QuickBooks, NetSuite or similar accounting software preferred
Adept at all Microsoft Office suite applications or equivalent including but not limited to Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Calendar, Outlook, and other tools and utilities
Assimilate new information and technology
Communication & Interpersonal Skills
Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
Ability to interact professionally and be responsive to agency staff, board members, volunteers, and community partner agencies
