General Description :The Technical Advisor is a part-time, temporary position. This position will co-teach courses within the Marine Science programs. Hours will vary according to need and will be determined on a weekly basis. This position typically maintains a 5-10 hour work schedule and reports to the Director, Marine Science and Technology, or designee.Examples of Duties

Essential Job Duties:1. Works to help maintain instructor ratio according to industry standards.2. Maintains strict inventory and control of all equipment borrowed by the class in which they are assigned.3. Instruct students in the classroom, pool, and underwater training area as needed in accordance with PADI standards.4. Issues, collects, and stows equipment in the dive locker according to dive facility procedures.5. Coordinates use of the pool with the Athletic Director.6. Coordinates use of the lagoon with the Senior Specialist, Dive Facilities.7. Coordinates use of the vessel with the Director, Marine Science and Technology, or designee.8. Assumes the responsibility of safety for students within the class in which they are assigned.9. Is familiar with risk management and emergency action plans.10. Logs incident/accident reports as necessary.11. Serves as a positive role model and mentor.12. Identifies and responds to student behavior issues.13. Works cooperatively with faculty, other lab technical advisors, and College staff.14. Completes all required scuba paperwork before and after scuba diving activities.15. May work in a supervisory capacity on a CFK vessel that conducts dive training.16. Other related duties as assigned. Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:•Knowledge of the local diving environment including the underwater training area and reef.•Knowledge and experience in monitoring the weather for approaching storms.•Ability to fill scuba cylinders according to PSI standards.•Ability to carry out clerical duties (e.g., collect, check, and maintain required paperwork).•Ability to carry out job duties with minimal or no direct supervision.•Ability to communicate regularly with the Director, Marine Science and Technology, Marine Science Faculty, and the Senior Specialist, Dive Facilities.•Knowledge of the College's mission, policies, procedures, and services.•Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.•Possess strong critical thinking, decision-making, and strong communication skills.•Possess interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body.

Education and Qualifications:•Associate's degree in a related field (Diving Business and Technology) with demonstrated competencies preferred.•Minimum of one year of professional experience independently teaching or assisting with scuba courses at various levels preferred.(A comparable amount of training, education, or experience can be substituted for the minimum qualifications.)

Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations:•Current CPR/First Aid/AED/O2 certification, required.•PADI Divemaster certification, Open Water Scuba Instructor, preferred•Valid driver's license or ability to obtain a valid driver's license, preferred.

Physical Skills:•Ability to lift objects weighing up to 70 lbs.•Works in an underwater environment.•Works in a classroom environment.•Works outside in various climate conditions.(Reasonable accommodations will be made for qualified individuals with a disability.)
