GNOC Engineer, Cloud Operations at Oracle in Boise, Idaho, United States Job Description Job Description Supports the design, deployment, and operations of a large-scale global Oracle cloud computing environment (Oracle Cloud Infrastructure - OCI). Primarily focused on development and support of network fabric and systems through a combination of a deep level understanding of networking at the protocol level coupled with programming skills to support the intensive automation required to operate a production environment. As OCI is a cloud-based network with a global footprint, this support will include hundreds of thousands of network devices supporting millions of servers, connected over a mix of dedicated backbone infrastructure and the Internet. Participate in Network lifecycle management through network build and/or upgrade projects. Using existing procedures and tooling, develop and safely complete network changes. Attend and chip in to the related projects and sprint planning. Develop and improve runbooks and methods of procedures. Assist in the onboarding of new team members. Regularly participate in network solution design review and provide feedback. Participate in operational rotations in either primary or secondary positions. Provide break-fix support for events. Triage event tickets and remediate or call out as needed. Support root causes analysis as required. Leverage existing tooling and automation to complete critical tasks, such as device upgrades. Preference for individuals with experience in scripting and network automation - Python, Puppet, SQL, and/or Ansible. Have worked with large enterprise network infrastructure supporting 24/7 and willing to work in rotational shifts in a network operations role. Provide on-call support services as needed and aid others. Job duties are varied and complex, needing independent judgment. Ability to act in a project lead role, as needed. Possess analytical skills in resolving network issues with advanced troubleshooting and coordination with onsite support teams and vendors. Experience in using monitoring tools to assist with incident management to identify actionable incidents. Highly motivated and self-starter. Bachelor's degree is preferred with at least 4 years of network-related experience. Experience working in a large ISP or cloud provider environment. Exposure to commodity Ethernet hardware (Broadcom/Mellanox), protocol experience with BGP/OSPF/IS-IS, TCP, IPv4, IPv6, DNS, DHCP, MPLS. Experience with networking protocols such as TCP/IP, VPN, DNS, DHCP, and SSL. Experience supporting network technologies, especially Juniper, Cisco, Arista, firewalls, and switches. InfiniBand experience is a plus. Strong analytical skills and ability to collate and interpret data from various sources. Ability to diagnose network alerts to assess and prioritize faults and respond or escalate accordingly. Strong oral and written communication skills. Experience with Incident Response plans and strategies. Excellent time management and organization skills. Comfortable and able to deal with a wide range of issues in a fast-paced environment. Cisco and Juniper certifications are desired. Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills. Career Level - IC3 Responsibilities We are looking for thoughtful, hands-on engineers to join our Global Network Operations Center Team (GNOC), which acts as a front-line for physical network issues supporting 247365. GNOC is responsible for performing data collection, triage, technical analysis, incident mitigation, and redirection as needed to maintain and optimize operations for the physical network infrastructure. Our three main job roles are: 1. to ensure maximum possible service availability and performance 2. to deliver premier customer service 3. to provide support services for Engineering and other technical teams These result in a highly diverse range of duties for the GNOC. Our engineers will be able to centrally administer OCI's networks and automate responses to common operational problems using the network automation API. + Identifying actionable incidents using a monitoring system, strong analytical problem-solving skills to mitigate network events/incidents, and following up on routine root cause analysis (RCA), coordinating with support teams and vendors. + Join major events/incidents calls, use technical and analytical skills to resolve network issues that impact Oracle customer/service, coordinate with SMEs, and provide RCA. + Fault handling and escalation (identifying and responding to faults on OCI's systems and networks, collaborating closely with 3rd party suppliers, handling escalation through to resolution). + Development of knowledge and skills in network and system administration, particularly with regard to OCI's own architecture and platforms. + You will use automation to complete work and develop scripts for routine tasks. + Implementing network changes following the defined Oracle organizational change process. + Maintain records of equipment failure and liaise with engineers and suppliers as necessary. + Lead efforts to update team documentation (runbooks, operations guides, technical documentation) and mentor new hires during their onboarding. + Assists in the implementation of short, medium, and long-term plans to achieve project objectives, and regularly interacts with senior management or network leadership to ensure team objectives are met. + Work with a premier team located across the world - the OCI Global Network Operations team who supports the network infrastructure environment with a 24/7 shift model.
