The Ada County Information Technology Department (AC-IT) supports the largest county in the State of Idaho. The department is divided into functional areas of Administration, Customer Support, Infrastructure, Project Management and Development for Client/Server/Web/GIS.

AC-IT provides computing and communications infrastructure, services, and innovation to the departments and elected officials charged with providing the services to the citizens of Ada County.

POSITION GENERAL SUMMARY:GIS developers typically work as part of a team of software developers to develop GIS based applications and tools and maintain software programs to support the needs of the county. Additional tasks may include programmatically analyzing and processing spatial data, creating scripts to automate tasks, or designing database tables to support GIS based applications.

Additional duties can involve project development and project management. Many of the GIS developer's work hours might be spent sitting at a desk and computer.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:GIS Developer I is the entry level position into the GIS Developer series. Work is narrow in scope and the position works under close supervision. The person in this position may take direction from a senior developer.

Essential Functions

GIS Developer I

Perform advanced programming and application development, which may include determining requirements, design, implementation, testing and deployment of large, usually multi-function, cross platform applications involving one or more interfaces with multiple end users;Debugs programs, prepares systems test data, and prepares program documentation;Modifies, maintains, and updates existing programs;Coordinates with system users to determine final objectives, desired reports, historical data to be preserved, and data sources;Analyzes user needs and evaluates options to determine the best solution;Utilizes a variety of object oriented programming and scripting languages to develop enterprise GIS software solutions;Coordinate with GIS and IT professionals to ensure successful delivery of data, products, and services;Develop scripts for automation of image processing and photogrammetry software;Adhere to Agile methodologies when managing and participating in group projects.ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:

Performs related functions as required.

Job Requirements

GIS Developer I

Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in GIS, Geography, Computer Science or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience;Must have sound analytical skills and the ability to evaluate information;Must have solid verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact with other professionals;Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and present ideas logically and effectively;Ability to analyze problems, draw appropriate conclusions and recommend an effective course ofaction;Ability to work somewhat independently and as part of a team to accomplish department goals;Demonstrate proficiencies using C#, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, SQL.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license;Must pass a criminal background investigation;Incumbents may be required to provide their own transportation for travel between various county offices and departments.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

Work is performed primarily in an office environment and the employee in this class is subject to inside environmental conditions;Work may require the incumbent to perform GIS troubleshooting in the field;May be required to lift up to 20 lbs.;Requires frequent repetitive movement of the wrists, hands, and fingers.
