JOB SUMMARY

The Information Technology Division of General Services is seeking a Systems Administrator II to join their team! Under general direction, a Systems Administrator implements, maintains and supports applications and systems; and performs related work as assigned.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other related duties may be required and assigned.

Installs, configures, tests, implements and updates applications and systems; coordinates with county departments, state agencies, and jurisdictions regarding the installation of systems, applications, and conversion programs.Coordinates, monitors, and maintains applications, systems and interfaces; analyzes and resolves alarms and error messages; confers with technical support staff and vendors when appropriate.Trains and provides support to county departmental staff on applications and systems; reviews and updates technical information pertaining to the operation of applications and systems used by the County; provides technical support to county departments and agencies as requested.Processes data using custom-designed, multi-user information systems; runs programs in accordance with established schedules; documents all jobs completed; checks output to ensure quality; generates reports and prepares for distribution.Compiles and processes statistical and ad hoc data for reporting to county departments, state agencies, and jurisdictions; reviews data to ensure complete and accurate information; distributes reporting data as required.Assigns, modifies, and deletes user accounts and resolves security access problems; maintains integrity of application and system security.Configures and performs data backups and maintains records for recovery operations; maintains records of materials loaned to users.Recommends the procurement of applications and systems following guidelines established by the IT Division; negotiates with vendors; completes required documentation and obtains required approvals; forwards documentation to appropriate personnel and/or department for processing.Assists in the development of departmental budget; compiles and analyzes data; confers with supervisors on systems requirements; forwards data for incorporation into budgetary request; monitors system expenditures to ensure budgetary compliance.Participates in training programs provided by state agencies and/or vendors.Performs a variety of special projects as directed.Performs after-hours and on-call support for county departments.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of: Policies, procedures, and functions of applications and systems; data conversion planning and evaluation methods; general accounting practices and procedures associated with applications; various information systems and applications; principles and methods of training users on a variety of platforms; principles and practices of information systems and office automation; methods of automating manual office systems.

Ability to: Plan, coordinate, and supervise the implementation, maintenance and use of assigned automated system at a countywide level. Analyze, interpret, recommend and develop policies and procedures as they relate to work processes and procedures and implementation and use of statewide automated systems. Demonstrate sound independent judgment and effective analytical skills; reason logically; independently set and meet work priorities and time constraints. Maintain accurate logs and records and prepare clear, concise reports. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing technical information to users, vendors and other staff with a wide range of levels of skill. Understand data conversion planning and implementation. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information. Establish, maintain, and foster positive working relationships with those individuals and agencies contacted in the course of work to maintain the positive image of the division.

Education and Experience: Equivalent to the completion of core course work for an Associates Degree from an accredited two year college in Computer Science; or closely related field, and five years of experience which would demonstrate the possession of the above knowledge and abilities, including increasingly responsible experience, including some training experience or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Essential Duties require the following physical skills and work requirements:Requires the ability to exert a small amount of physical effort in sedentary to light work involving moving from one area of the office to another; some positions require sufficient hand/eye coordination to perform semi-skilled repetitive movements, such as data entry or use of other office equipment or supplies; sufficient strength and coordination for lifting, pushing, pulling, and/or carrying the weight of computer equipment.

Other Requirements: Travel outside the County and work irregular hours as necessary. Positions assigned to the Law Enforcement System will be required to pass a law enforcement background check.
