About the Position

POSITION: Registered Nurse Surgical Assistant

EMPLOYMENT TYPE: .5-.7 FTE (40-56 hours a pay period)

WORK SCHEDULE: Days/Evenings

Here's what you'll do when you join us:

The RN surgical assistant under the direction of the Surgical Services Nurse Leadership provides professional nursing care throughout the continuum of the surgical experience, assisting the surgeon with the care of the patient and family. This occurs in the peri-operative phase of surgical care. These persons are not authorized to operate independently.

Works cooperatively with the surgeon to assess the needs of each patient on an individual basis and provide the services necessary to meet those needs.The RN assistant's play a hands-on role in surgical procedures using instruments and medical devices, providing surgical site exposure, providing hemostasis, suturing skin, dressing incisions and wounds, alerting physician to patient changes, and intervening if complications arise.Follows established scope of RN practice.Assists the surgeon as directed during operative cases in the Surgical Services DepartmentAssists the operative crew with patient preparation in the peri-operative period, including patient transfer, positioning, prep and draping as directed by the surgeon and circulating RN.May assist the surgeon in the inpatient setting as directed.May be required to help cover other surgical assistants in the OR.Maintains a working knowledge of all surgical procedures, equipment and instrumentation involved in performing surgeries across multiple service lines.Assigned call for weeknights, holidays, and weekends in an equal rotation with other RN Surgical Assistant nurses.

If you have these qualifications, we'd love to chat:

Registered with the Minnesota Board of Nursing. BSN preferred.Current 1-year minimum RNSA/RNFA experience..Current BLS and ACLS or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.AORN Peri-operative Nursing 101 or equivalent course to be completed within 12 months of employment if not currently CNOR Certified or RNFA.CNOR Certification or attain certification within 2-years of hire and maintains certification.Maintains reliable and consistent attendance.

If no candidates meet the above requirements, consideration will be given to those with 1 year or less current RNSA/RNFA experience, 2 years of Surgical Technician experience in the last 5 years, or 3 years OR RN experience within the last 5 years.
