We are seeking a full time Jr. Estimator with Transmission line or Substation utility experience to join our growing team. Distribution lines and BESS experience is a plus. This position plays a pivotal role in the planning and execution of high voltage transmission, distribution, and substation line construction projects. As a Jr. Estimator, you will be responsible for calculating accurate project costs, preparing budget proposals, and managing subcontractors. This position will assist the Senior Estimator, Operations Manager, field supervisors, and customers.
This position is 100% on-site and can work from either our Rapid City, SD; Centennial, CO; or Princeton, MN offices.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare detailed cost estimates by analyzing plans and specifications and performing quantity take-offs for select trades.
- Review construction design drawings and understand the scope of work to bid.
- Manage the bidding process from preparing the bid to closing the bid.
- Develop and maintain relationships with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure comprehensive coverage of all scopes of work.
- Analyze subcontractor proposals for completeness, price, and scope.
- Prepare and present cost/budget information to the client or project team.
- Utilize value engineering strategies to identify cost-saving and cost-reducing opportunities.
- Conduct risk assessment to identify potential project risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Collaborate with project managers and construction managers to develop a project schedule.
- Participate in contract negotiations to ensure favorable terms.
- Continually update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience in substation estimating or electrical utilities estimating strongly preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction or Electrical Management, Engineering, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.
- Self-motivated with a proven track record for a dedicated work ethic and ability to manage multiple projects.
- Proven experience in high-voltage transmission line and substation erection construction management, project management, and contract management.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare accurate budgets, cost estimates, and project bids.
- Proficient in value engineering and cost analysis.
- Strong understanding of construction processes, materials, and legal requirements.
- Excellent risk assessment skills with the ability to identify potential risks and develop effective mitigation strategies.
- Proven experience in scheduling, subcontracting, and managing suppliers.
- Strong negotiation skills with a track record of securing favorable contract terms.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to develop and maintain professional relationships with vendors, customers, engineers, owners, contractors, and subcontractors for any changes in work, schedule, and/or estimates.
- Proficient in using estimating software and other industry-related technology.
