About the RoleAs a Product Marketing Lead at Descript, you will play a pivotal role in bringing our video content suite to new customers, and helping existing customers get the most out of their subscription. Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, you will define distinctive and memorable ways to position Descript’s offering, and develop campaigns that bring to life our most differentiating features. Additionally, you will represent the voice of prospect and customer communities—driving internal understanding of their use cases, motivations, and needs. Your work will help us deepen credible relationships with new and existing customers.
This role directly manages multiple Product Marketers, and reports to the Head of Brand.
What You’ll Do
Positioning & Messaging:
With a particular focus on independent video creators and podcasters, you’ll guide the Product Marketing team’s approach to positioning our offering in the crowded landscape of creative tools, and crisply articulating the benefits of our features.
Audience knowhow:
You’ll help build internal understanding of priority personas, and create resources that help cross-functional collaborators understand their needs.
Campaigns that drive growth & engagement:
You’ll partner with the Growth team to drive efficient acquisition of priority audiences. You’ll partner with content, design, and community to drive feature adoption and retention.
Connect the dots between feature awareness, adoption, and customer health:
You will develop frameworks that help the marketing and product teams reason about which features to prioritize throughout stages of the customer lifecycle, based on persona and use case.
Advise on growth and pricing strategies to maximize ARR:
As Descript continues to optimize pricing and packaging for our subscription plans, you’ll bring customer and industry knowhow to the conversation.
Be the marketing bridge to product:
You will ensure that you—and all the Product Marketing Managers—have the operational habits and relationships in place to work in lockstep with the engineering, product, and design teams.
What You Bring
Deep expertise: 12+ years as a proven product marketing leader, ideally with some experience in a startup environment. Campaigns you’ve developed and led have made an impact on growth, engagement, and LTV.
Experience developing teams:
5+ years of people-management, that have informed thoughtful approaches to helping team members learn, explore, and do their best work.
An ownership mindset:
Broad curiosity and interest in the technical and user-facing aspects of a product; a commitment to craft and an eagle-eye for detail; a supernatural ability to see around corners.
Flawless communication:
In cross-functional relationships, in strategy documentation, in campaign analysis and guidance for improvement…your written and verbal communication is clear and galvanizing.
Fluency using self-serve data tools to make decisions:
You make Hex and Amplitude dashboards in your sleep. And you know how to ask the right questions of Data Science and Research collaborators.
Bonus strengths
Fluency with creative tools and audiophile cred
Experience at companies that serve both B2C and B2B customers
Keeping up with the internet zeitgeist, and knowing how to ride the waves
The base salary range for this role is $188,000-$200,000. Final offer amounts will carefully consider multiple factors, including prior experience, expertise, and location, and they may vary from the amount above.
