This position will report directly to the Global Head of Client Onboarding within the office of the Chief Operating Officer (COO).The Global Head of AML/KYC – First Line of Defense will be responsible to stand up the AML/KYC Center of Expertise, centralize all 1LOD AML/KYC activities across the enterprise, and implement a consistent, sustainable, standard operating model.Key Responsibilities:Lead AML/KYC operations across the firm to support Business Units in the timely and accurate delivery of the end-to-end onboarding of new clients/accounts, completion of Periodic Reviews (PRs) and Event Driven Reviews (EDRs) for existing clients/accounts to comply with Northern Trust’s AML/KYC policies and standards as well as regulatory requirements.Provide Customer Identification Program (CIP), Customer Due Diligence (CDD), and Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) services to Northern Trust’s Business Units globally; including careful oversight of the collection/analysis of client data, documents, and publicly available information for new and existing client accounts.Strengthen Northern Trust’s AML/KYC risk posture by assessing and demonstrating clear ownership of tasks and associated risks, exercising discipline in risk management processes, and delivering on heightened regulatory requirements through risk mitigation techniques that ensure accuracy and completeness of AML/KYC records through a robust quality assurance process.Drive identification and implementation of opportunities to streamline and continuously improve efficiency and achieve scale within AML/KYC Operations; developing and utilizing a single source of metrics to inform/drive effective management, oversight, timing, and escalation of key issues.Recruit, manage, develop, and coach team of AML/KYC talent to ensure performance against team, Business Unit, and firm goals; implementing a high-standard AML/KYC training framework for new hires and continuous learning.Establish a strong and trusted relationship with 2LOD leadership and team to ensure continuous alignment, combined with standing-up a global AML/KYC leadership forum to facilitate stakeholder management and engage on tactical and strategic matters.Build and maintain a direct and robust relationship with Relationship Management to inform all Relationship Managers on their critical role and responsibility relative to KYC.Act as the 1LOD direct interface with regulatory bodies for statutory audits and ad hoc reviews while remaining current on regulatory developments through participation in industry forums.Qualifications:A college or university degree and/or relevant proven work experience.15+ years of experience in financial services; well versed in regulatory and statutory requirements for a G-SIB, preferred.Advanced knowledge of AML/KYC/financial crimes regulations and processes.Transformation mindset, experienced in consolidation of disparate teams and functions to create one Center of Expertise and continuously mature the operating model to best in class.Highly collaborative, executive-level gravitas and leadership qualities to influence positively and productively at all levels of the organization (including C-Suite leaders), with clients, and regulators.Proven ability to effectively lead and assume accountability for a multi-jurisdictional team to achieve organizational goals.Experienced with embedding resiliency in all facets of the end-to-end AML/KYC process to ensure continuity and heightened confidence.Significant experience in identifying, designing, building, and implementing end-to-end workflow leveraging technology, process improvements, and industry best practices.Accomplished change leader, driving efficiency toward achieving operational scale while maintaining and improving organizational risk posture.Working with Us:As a Northern Trust partner, greater achievements await.
