Position description

The Department of Pediatrics, David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and UCLA Mattel Children's Hospital is recruiting a full-time academic Child Abuse Pediatrician to join the Department of Pediatrics Health Science Series in the Division of General Pediatrics. Academic rank will be commensurate with experience.

The successful candidate will join the current Medical Director of the UCLA Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect team in providing consultations in a busy regional Level 1 Trauma Center serving Southern California. The candidate will be expected to provide clinical expertise in the evaluation of children and adolescents with concerns for abuse and/or neglect in a variety of clinical sites. Duties will include patient care, teaching of fellows and residents, and participation in research or other scholarly endeavors that will lead to academic promotion. The candidate will work collaboratively with local child welfare agencies, and have the opportunity to participate in multidisciplinary committees including the county death review committee.

The David Geffen School of Medicine provides ample opportunities for professional development as well as education and research. The Department of Pediatrics has over 30 Divisions and Programs. The Department is the home of the Children's Discovery & Innovation (CDI) Institute which promotes research, funding, and training activities related to improving children's health and health care, spanning from research discoveries in basic science, through translation to clinical care, and implementation in community practice. A unique feature of UCLA is the presence of the Center for the Health Sciences (CHS) complex that includes the UCLA Medical Center, School of Medicine, School of Dentistry, School of Nursing, School of Public Health, and California NanoSystems Institute, all on the same campus as the Division of Life Sciences and 7 other professional schools and the largest undergraduate student enrollment in the UC system. UCLA Mattel Children's Hospital is consistently ranked as one of the best children's hospitals in the nation by the US News & World Report. Annually Mattel Children's Hospital serves more than 6,000 inpatients and 40,000 outpatients of diverse racial/ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
