JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: We are searching for an IT Cloud Architect/Engineer to join our Information Technology Service Office at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University. ARL's purpose is to research and develop innovative solutions to challenging scientific, engineering, and technology problems in support of the Navy, the Department of Defense (DoD), and the Intel Community (IC). This role will help design and implement a secure, cloud-based infrastructure to support mission critical operations. ARL is an authorized DoD SkillBridge partner and welcomes all transitioning military members to apply. You will: Oversee the development and coordination of cloud architecture across diverse areas; including application development, identity and access management, network and data management, and security Lead the security solution design, development, testing and implementation of any new cloud-based initiatives Assist in developing security baselines and standards for Amazon Web Services (AWS) and on-premises resources, hardening, and strengthening security to exceed the latest best practices Collaborate with peer architects and technical leaders; finding opportunities to refactor code, improve product capabilities or perform capability rationalization Participate in high-level enterprise architecture analysis, evaluation, design, integration, documentation, and development Work with a highly skilled research and engineering staff to develop and execute complex solutions This position will be filled at the Senior Professional level. Minimally requires a Bachelor's Degree or higher, plus 6 years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Required skills/experience areas include: Development of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) such as Terraform and/or CloudFormation Success in designing, developing, deploying, or testing in cloud services from AWS and using tools, including EC2, S3, ELBs, RDS, VPCs, security groups, CloudTrail, CloudWatch, or IAM permissions and Azure Experience with microservices and containerization; such as orchestration, cluster management, and container storage, including Docker, Kubernetes, or Rancher Willingness to obtain minimum DoD 8140 / 8570 IAT II Baseline Certification (e.g. Security, GSEC, SSCP) Preferred skills/experience areas include: Active government security clearance Cloud Certifications (Azure, AWS, or GCP) Experience working within the parameters detailed via DISA STIGs Past success managing and migrating workloads to the Public Cloud Experience in implementing GCC High M365 tenant for US government entities Experience in both setting up of a green field tenant and/or migrating from on premise to M365 Your working location can be fully on-site or hybrid on-site/work from home located in State College, Pennsylvania area.
