About the roleThe Director of Billing will lead and manage all aspects of the billing department for an urgent care company. This role ensures timely and accurate billing, collections, and reimbursements while maintaining compliance with industry regulations and payer policies. The Director will work closely with cross-functional teams to streamline processes, manage staff, and improve overall financial performance related to billing and collections.
What you need to succeed:
Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, finance, business, or related field (Master’s preferred).
7-10 years of experience in medical billing, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
Strong understanding of urgent care billing processes, including coding (CPT, ICD-10), payer regulations, and reimbursement models.
Expertise in revenue cycle management, accounts receivable, and collections processes.
Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) and practice management software (e.g., Epic, Cerner, or similar platforms).
Knowledge of industry regulations (HIPAA, Medicare/Medicaid billing rules).
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence and drive results across departments.
Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management abilities.
Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism.
Demonstrated success in process improvement initiatives.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and reporting software.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex financial data to non-financial stakeholders.

Lead and develop the billing and collections team, providing training on processes and regulations.
Foster a productive, improvement-focused work environment.
Oversee billing from registration to payment reconciliation, ensuring timely and accurate submissions.
Manage accounts receivable, monitor denial trends, and supervise appeals.
Ensure compliance with HIPAA, payer requirements, and urgent care regulations.
Maintain best practices for patient records and data security.
Analyze billing performance, present revenue insights, and track KPIs for operational goals.
Optimize workflows to reduce errors and boost efficiency, leveraging technology for accuracy.
Maintain payer relationships, negotiate rates, handle audits, and resolve disputes.
Collaborate with clinical, administrative, and IT teams to streamline billing and software systems.
