Description: The Infection Control RN is a key member of the Infection Control Team in preventing healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) by limiting the spread of transmission and unprotected exposure to pathogens in order to ensure a safe environment for patients, employees, and visitors.The successful candidate will be able to: Systematically collect, analyze, and interpret health data in order to disseminate appropriate health practices Conduct educational and training activities for healthcare workers through instruction and guidance from the Director of Infection Control. Maintain and conduct a monthly schedule of surveillance rounds and following up regarding activities to correct deficiencies Work with department managers to apply policies and procedures that ensure compliance with TJC, OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration), CDC, CMS and other regulatory/accrediting agencies Coordinate activities for staff for Infection Control Week, World Hand Hygiene Day and other promotional events Conduct and gather data on hand hygiene audits in order to generate a monthly hand hygiene audit report Liaise with the Employee Health Nurse regarding staff member health issues or exposures and in educates new hires on available Hepatitis B and influenza vaccination Interact with and reports communicable diseases to local and state health departments Develop reports and statistical data, calculate infection rates using NHSN recommended denominator data Assist with ICRAs for construction/renovation projects; assists director with performing hospital-wide annual risk assessment, annual infection control plan, development of goals and objectives Develop policies and procedures that support key infection prevention and control functions Identifies, investigates, reports, health-care associated infections among patients and personnel through ongoing surveillance. Maintain logs with infection surveillance data Act as a resource in educating staff, patients, and family regarding transmission of microorganisms, hand hygiene, respiratory etiquette and personal protective equipment.
