Brief Description of PSU/School/Dept The Mark O. Hatfield Cybersecurity & Cyber Defense Policy Center is a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Research . The center convenes scholars, managers, and policymakers from across Portland State University and beyond to train future leaders and translate research findings into effective policy. We achieve these goals through multi-disciplinary, multi-sector, and multi-stakeholder curricular and research partnerships. Position Summary The Security Analyst is a critical role responsible for monitoring and analyzing information assets and data systems for potential cybersecurity threats and incidents. The analyst plays a key part in ensuring the security and integrity of state data and critical infrastructure by promptly detecting and responding to security events. This position collaborates with the cybersecurity team, incident response team, and other stakeholders to implement effective security measures and protect against cyber threats. The position is renewable beyond 6/30/25, contingent upon funding. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or a related field, or relevant experience (typically 2 years) in cybersecurity, security operations, or a related field is preferred. Knowledge of cybersecurity principles, security frameworks, and best practices. Familiarity with security monitoring tools, SIEM , IDS / IPS , firewalls, and antivirus systems. Understanding of common cyber-attack vectors and indicators of compromise (IOCs). Analytical mindset with the ability to analyze and interpret security logs and data. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to respond effectively to security incidents. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Proven ability to multitask and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment. Possession of a valid State-issued driver's license. Preferred Qualifications Professional certifications such as Certified Information Systems Auditor( CSA ), GIAC Security Essentials ( GSEC ), Certified Information Systems Security Professional ( CISSP ), CompTIA Security, or Certified Ethical Hacker ( CEH ) are advantageous but not mandatory. A Postgraduate degree in Computer Science or related fields; or a Graduate degree with 0 - 2 years experience in cybersecurity practice Relevant certifications such as the CISSP A demonstrable commitment to mentoring and advising learners Experience in a Cybersecurity Leadership Role Working knowledge of requirements for organizational compliance with multiple laws, regulations, and standards such as PCI - DSS , CJIS , FISMA , GLBA , and FERPA Strong technical understanding of a broad range of security concepts and countermeasures including workstation security, perimeter security, identity and access management, applied cryptography, and network security Key Cultural Competencies Create an environment that acknowledges, encourages, and celebrates differences. Work Days/Hours Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week, schedule to be determined. Total Compensation Range & Benefits Statement Salary is dependent on several factors, and new employees will typically start around the Q1 level to allow for later growth within the salary band. PSU has a structured process for determining starting compensation, taking into account years of related experience, applicable skills, knowledge and abilities, market parity, and internal equity. The starting annual salary for this position will be between $66,732 and $80,892 at 1.0 FTE , but the rate may be negotiated above this range, dependent upon the factors above, the budget of the hiring department, and approval from HR.
