The ideal candidate will have recently completed a phlebotomy program and possess a strong desire to begin their career in a clinical setting. Under the supervision of experienced phlebotomists and healthcare professionals, the New Graduate Phlebotomist will perform venipuncture procedures to collect blood specimens from patients for diagnostic testing, ensuring accuracy, patient comfort, and adherence to established protocols. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual to gain hands-on experience and develop their skills in a supportive environment. Job Description The PRN New Graduate Phlebotomist at Valor Health will work within the clinic's operating hours or work at the hospital location, work days and hours may vary. Training may take six to eight weeks. Responsibilities for clinical phlebotomist: + Communicate with staff to ensure the collection of complete and accurate information, such as diagnosis codes, insurance information, etc. + Complete additional laboratory project assignments in conjunction with the Regional Account Manager. + Read and abide by all applicable laboratory department policies and procedures. + Perform venipuncture procedures to collect blood specimens from patients of all ages, following established protocols and safety guidelines. + Verify patient identity and obtain necessary information, such as patient demographics and test requisitions, to ensure accurate specimen labeling and tracking. + Prepare collection sites and ensure patient comfort and safety throughout the phlebotomy procedure, providing clear instructions and reassurance as needed. + Handle and process collected specimens according to laboratory protocols, including labeling, centrifugation, and transportation to the laboratory for analysis. + Maintain cleanliness and organization of phlebotomy equipment, work areas, and specimen processing areas, adhering to infection control standards and safety regulations. + Communicate effectively with patients, healthcare providers, and laboratory staff to coordinate specimen collection, resolve any issues or concerns, and ensure timely delivery of specimens. + Document all phlebotomy procedures, patient interactions, and specimen-handling activities accurately and promptly in electronic medical records or other designated systems. + Participate in ongoing training and educational activities to enhance phlebotomy skills, stay updated on best practices, and comply with regulatory requirements. + Assist in other clinical tasks and responsibilities as assigned by supervisory personnel, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the healthcare team. + Other duties as assigned. Skills: + Ability to communicate effectively by sharing and receiving information from multiple sources. + A high level of professionalism and customer-focused behavior is required of the phlebotomists as they are the visible representatives of the laboratory. + Knowledgeable in the performance of procedures and use of pertinent equipment. + Ability to stand for extended periods and move freely throughout the work area. + Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for performing venipuncture procedures. + Lifting and carrying objects up to 25 pounds, including phlebotomy supplies and specimen containers. + Visual acuity and color perception for accurate identification and labeling of specimens. Qualifications: + Completion of a phlebotomy training program from an accredited institution. + Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) is preferred but not required. + Recent graduates or individuals with limited experience are encouraged to apply. + Strong attention to detail and excellent interpersonal skills. + Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced healthcare environment. + Demonstrated commitment to patient safety, confidentiality, and quality care. + Willingness to learn and adapt to new procedures, technologies, and challenges. + Basic computer skills and familiarity with electronic medical records systems.
