Job Summary:

The Lead Machinist plays a key role in the precision manufacturing process and is responsible

for setting up, programming, operating, and maintaining CNC metal fabrication equipment.

Working under minimal supervision, this position requires a high level of skill in CNC

programming, machining, and precision measuring tools. The role involves ensuring high-quality

production, contributing to the design and manufacturability of fixtures and fabricated parts,

troubleshooting, and continuous process improvements. The ideal candidate will excel in

producing high-quality precision parts, with a thorough understanding of GD&T, lean

manufacturing, and safety standards.

? CNC Machine Operation: Set up, program, and operate Swiss turning CNC machines

along with various other machines such as lathes, vertical machining centers, mills, drills,

saws, and grinders. Make necessary adjustments to ensure optimal machine performance

and production accuracy.

? Blueprint Interpretation: Read and interpret technical blueprints, GD&T specifications,

engineering drawings, and equipment documentation, to ensure precision in

manufacturing processes and part production.

? Fixture Design & Manufacturability: Collaborate on the design and development of

assembly fixtures and tooling to meet tolerance requirements. Provide recommendations

to improve manufacturability, efficiency, and quality in fabrication processes.

? Uses precision tools, machinery, and equipment including drill presses, hydraulic presses,

chop saws, band saws, and a variety of cutting tools and equipment.

? Fabricates and shapes parts such as tools, fixtures, and machine parts out of metal,

plastics, and composites.

? Quality Control & Inspection: Measure and inspect machined parts and products using

precision instruments such as calipers, micrometers, optical comparator, and CMM

(Coordinate Measuring Machines) to ensure adherence to quality standards.

? Perform first-article inspections and make necessary adjustments to meet tolerances.

? Troubleshooting & Maintenance: Diagnose and troubleshoot machine issues, perform

preventative and routine maintenance, and ensure that machines are in optimal working

condition. Reduce downtime through efficient problem-solving, repairs, and daily regular

cleaning on machinery and equipment.

? Process Improvement: Lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives,

including reducing cycle times, optimizing tool paths, and enhancing programming

efficiency. Apply lean manufacturing principles to improve workflow and productivity.

? Team Leadership & Collaboration: Foster collaboration across internal teams,

including engineering, production, and quality departments, to ensure smooth operations,

delivery, and high production standards.

? Safety & Compliance: Maintain a safe working environment by following all safety

protocols, guidelines, and workplace cleanliness. Ensure machines and tools are operated

in compliance with OSHA standards and internal safety procedures.

? Production Schedule Management: Prioritize tasks and manage time effectively to

meet deadlines without compromising quality. Ensure that production schedules are met

by optimizing machine operation and workflow.

Requirements/Qualifications:

? Experience: 8+ years of experience as a CNC Machinist, with a proven track record in

setting up, programming, and operating CNC machines.

? Education: Associate’s degree or technical degree in CNC machining, manufacturing

technology, or a related field is required.

? Programming Expertise: Strong knowledge of G-Code and CNC programming

languages (e.g., G-code) and experience with Mitsubishi/Cincom machines are a plus.

? Technical Proficiency: In-depth understanding of machining processes, tools, and

materials, including metals, plastics, and alloys. Proficiency in precision measuring

instruments and GD&T application.

? Ability to read mechanical drawings and familiarity with CAD/CAM software for

programming and simulation. (preferred but not required)

? Proficient in performing basic mathematical computations and applying concepts such as

fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions, and to practical situations, while working

with both SI (metric) and metric units of measure. This includes accurately calculating

dimensions, tolerances, and machining parameters to ensure precision in the

manufacturing process.

? Attention to Detail: Ability to work with tight tolerances and perform detailed

inspections to ensure quality standards are consistently met.

? Problem-Solving Skills: Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to identify and

resolve mechanical or technical issues efficiently.

? Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or

diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
